Hi
I seem to have a ptoblem removing two probs with Norton, so, following various routes, found this site and an instruction regarding Hijack this. It said to load the log onto this site. Can anyone help get rid of the nasties?

Sorry for the delay, can you do the following please

Most of what I ask you too fix with hijackthis is not malware, but not needed on startup

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer

What are those 2 problems???

Additionally, you are running Norton's and F-Secure
It's not a good idea to run more than one Anti-virus background realtime protection on your computer
I would opt to disable one from running in the background and startup or uninstall it completely
This can cause conflicts and noticeably decrease system performance

The same holds true with a software firewall
If you are running more than one(Including the one built into XP)
I would disable all but One

Post back a fresh hijackthis log afterwards

I've already taken Norton antivirus off but still run Norton's utilities -
Norton cleanup would not remove a couple of things from the Temp folder - I don't know what they are but the name of my original post is one of them.
I only runF-secur as antivirus and firewall now

Can you do the following please

Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run it yet

ONLY run Hijackthis from this location
C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-gb10.hpwis.com/

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

In safe mode, ==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."

It's safe to leave the "Standard Cleanup" options if you have no Newsgroup Cache or subcriptions
and if you have no files you want to hold onto saved to a temp folder
Personally, I run the Standard cleanup

If you don't want to clean those locations
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done

Reboot back to Normal mode
