Hi All...
OK....

Here\'s the scoop...

Running Win98....just added more ram
Had 64..now I have 320megs.  Over the last week or so my mouse has been really jittery...
to the point that I have to wait until every bit of the page loads...before it will move for me
(its getting rreeeeeeally annoying!)

Was playing RocknRoll Jeopardy, and the sounds that
go along with the on-line game sound terrible...
they stutter and stutter, and some times there is no sound at all.

Cleaned the mouse... nothing wrong with it (Microsoft Intellimouse)

At my wits end...

Did a system check, virus check, defrag,
optimize...etc with Norton

Only have 3 things running when the
whole computer starts up...

HELLLLLLp...
any suggestions???

I am not very computer savvy...so any explanations
(in easy to understand terms) would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

Christine

OK...so here\'s the poop

FIXED IT

After removing the RAM and taking a closer
look at it...

my 64 one says pc 100
the 256 says pc 133

fricken frack fricken frack...

no wonder!!!!!

they are not compatible...
going to flog the friend that bought it
for me and said it would work fine!!

Please excuse my ignorance!!

Just have the 64 running on its own and
it moves just like butter!!

Though the RAM may have something due to it, don\'t blame your friend.  PC133 is backwards compatible with PC100.  Both are backwards compatible with PC66.  Now, the RAM itself may be of poor quality, but the fact that it is PC133 has nothing to do with it.

MAN!!!!!!

So what would be the problem??????

The 64 (pc100) by itself runs (slower of course) but great!!

when I put in the 256 (pc133) its terrrrrible...

stutter...audio all overt the place..mouse uncontrolable...

Just buy a diff brand?????

why not replace the 64mb by the 256mb , if they are not compatible together they probably will work apart .
Look at the bios settings and the sdram settings (latency )233 , 333 , 222 , perhaps there is the difference between the 2 ram modules . If the latency is to small , could result in errors .Try setting the three bios latencys to 3 . There is also a lot of cheap sdram on the market , some of less quality .Ask for brand on brand sdram , but anyway you never be completely certain of the compatibility with other brands

read above post... they do NOT work apart

the 256 all by itself is screwy....

might be bad ram???

I\'ve found in the past is some ram is unstable in one pc, it can be stable in another pc, sometime is can be caused by h/w setup, bios setup or os setup. Branded ram seems to be the best for compatability but is usally costs more!

It\'s like what they say, You pay for what you get http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

MANNNNNN....

I returned the 256 ram today....I was told by the computer guy that my
100mhz - p2b-f ASUS Motherboard would only handle another 64MB of RAM....
He said that anything over 64 is usless....Is that correct?
I read over the specs on the board....but not too
sure on who to believe....

I just don\'t want to waste my time driving
from place to place to get ram...unless I don\'t have
too...

thanks!!

Here is some information of your motherboard :
http://www.baber.com/baber/411/asusp2bf.htm
You\'ll see you motherboard supports a lot more than 256mb
4 x 256mb (1024mb) . About pc 100 it will most probably accept pc133 too . Print it out and take it with you when going to buy your sdram . Good luck
