I'm having a problem with my XP...
I recently aquired a nasty set of viruses, and after 3 or 4 hours of hard work - I had the problem fixed - or so I thought. In the process of deep-cleaning my computer, I must've accidentally messed up my 'Winlogon' file. Now, after I have my computer on for... oh, maybe 5 minutes in normal mode, an error that takes up the whole screen will pop up, and it says that 'Winlogon.exe' has made a fatal error, and it shuts the whole computer down. Here is my HijackThis log, even though I don't think that it will be needed in this case....

Actually, looking at your log has helped a lot to identify some bad guys
Can you do the following please

I need you too download a few tools we are going to need

==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run this yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

==Download Win32delfkil.exe
Save it on your desktop.

Save the rest of these instructions to a Notepad file saved to your desktop or Print them out for use in safe mode later

Double click on win32delfkil.exe and install it. This creates a new folder on your desktop: win32delfkil
Close all windows, open the win32delfkil folder and double click on fix.bat.

Follow the prompts and perform exactly as mentioned in the screen!
The computer should reboot afterwards

After the computer has fully loaded
Can I get you to
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
If the system restarts back to Normal mode you will have to do it again

In safe mode

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

Remain in safe mode
==Open Ewido anti-malware
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries if they still exist

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.adorons.com

O20 - Winlogon Notify: browsela - C:\WINDOWS\system32\browsela.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll


After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot back to Normal mode

Can you post back the following please
1. Post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post back the whole report from Ewido's
3. Post the Report from win32delfkil located here>>> C:\windelf.txt

Can you let me know if you have either of the latest versions of SPYBOT 1.4
or Ad-Aware SE Personal or Pro 1.06

Okay... I did as you instructed, except, when I tried to run CleanUp! and HijackThis in SafeMode, I could not find them anywhere, so I assumed that they didn't work in SafeMode. Is this normal? Anyways, so I ran the scans in normal mode, and did the rest of the scans that you told me to to in SafeMode, in SafeMode. Sorry for the delay, your hijackthis log looks good
But if you can find it, I would like to look at the Ewido log

Just double check for it please
You may of saved it too the default location

Open MyComputer and double click to open C:\ drive
Open Program Files>>EWIDO>>SecuritySuite>>Reports

If you find it post it back here please

When you booted to safe mode, did you sign in with the same account you are in right now?

Thank you! Okay - after I did what you told me to do, I scanned with my new Norton Antivirus scan. It found SmitFraud or something in WININET.dll. I believe that the trojan had infected the entire file, so Norton ended up deleting the entire file, which is a neccisary Windows component. The computer now can't even start up - it will get as far as my wallpaper and stop. I called in to the computers' manufacturer, and they are sending me a disk with wininet.dll on it - hopefully it will repair this damage. Thank you so much for your help, I am truely grateful! You have helped me twice now! =) If I need any further assistance, I'll post. Thanks again!

Hold up, you may not have to wait for the manufacturer to send you this file
I need to know something, when Windows does load are you able to use your Task manager?

Hit your Ctrl + Alt + Del keys on your keyboard to bring up the task manager

This will help
I take it you have another computer your on right now, we just have to transfer a couple small files

The manufacturer sent me a repair disk, so I used it, and everything seems fine and dandy! *WOO!* One thing, though - Norton says that there's STILL one problem. I haven't let it fix it yet - I'm very wary now of what happened last time, and I don't really trust Norton. I just want to thank you again for all of you wonderful help! This is SO much more helpful then talking to Tech Support on the phone after waiting on hold or talking to a machine for hours... ANYWAYS - here is my latest HijackThis log, if you could just take a quick peek and check how things are... if you still want that Ewido scan log, I could probably get it to you tomorrow - let me know.
