Netsh.exe
« on: December 29, 2005, 07:32:38 PM »
Ok first of all the problem that i'm having trouble with is the netsh.exe prompt that comes up everytime i log-in. First of all it started as a virus and i removed viruses that Norton anti-virus 2005 pro picked up, then i did spysweeper, adaware & spybot scans. They removed the sheriff spyware or so they claim. because twice it has come back and i'm still gettin the prompt along with windows telling my system is infected still and ctrl,alt & delete not working to access Task manager.  I've done a hijack scan here's my Log:

ok i've done an ewido scan and it found infections that the other spyware software didnt find, i also did cleanup! and that removed alot of trash. But the only thing that isnt fine is just the ctrl, alt & delete to access Task Manager saying "[color=\"#FF0000\"]task manager has been diabled by your administrator[/color]"
i'm the admin on the pc and i didnt set it to that.

can any one help me with this part please

Did you save a log from Ewido to post back here?

Can you do the following please
==Download and save WinPFind.zip
UNZIP the contents to your desktop
Don't run it yet

RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

In safe mode
Open the WinPFind folder you extracted to desktop
Double click on WinPFind.exe
Click START SCAN
This could take some time as it will scan your drive
Close out after

Reboot back to Normal mode

Back in Windows
Can you please supply me with a couple logs please

1. Run Hijackthis and post a fresh log
2. Post the results of the WindPFind.txt located in the WinPFind folder

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Re-done it and thats everything from the Log

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

I will, Liam, Can I get you to do the following please
Your controlling entries with MSCONFIG

Although, not a bad thing, your also controlling some bad guys from running on startup
Can you do the following for me please

Go to START>>RUN>>type in msconfig
Hit OK
Under the STARTUP tab>>enable ALL
Under the General tab>>Select Normal startup

Apply it and close but DO NOT restart the computer yet

Instead, come back here and post a fresh Hijackthis log

You can go back and disable what you want later AFTER we get you clean
Just leave it this way for now

I promise we'll do fixes when you post back the new Hijackthis log   http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Thanks, I see you redownloaded Hijackthis or using a different version
You have Hijackthis on your desktop
Can you do the following please
Right click an empty spot on the desktop and select NEW>>FOLDER
Name the new folder HJT
Right click on Hijackthis.exe on your desktop and select CUT
Paste it into the HJT folder
Only run hijackthis.exe from this new location

I didn't get the chance to see the Ewido report, so I'm going to ask you to delete some files if they do exist

Can you do the following please
==Download SmitRem.exe by Noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
Don't run it yet

Please print the next set of instructions or save them too a notepad file on your desktop for reference

I need you too disable your Anti-Spyware realtime protections so they won't interfere in any way with the fixes we are about to try, you can reenable these AFTER we have you clean
To deactivate Spyware Doctor's OnGuard Tools

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

Never mind SpywareDoctor instructions, I thought you had it installed  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':blink:\' />

SpySweeper: Do any of the following that apply
Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

Afterwards
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Select Safe mode from the Startup menu

Once in safe mode

Find and delete these files if they exist, exact folder location and name please
C:\WINDOWS\sysldr32.exe <-this file
C:\WINDOWS\HOSTS <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd32.exe <-this file, remember, DON'T remove something because it looks similiar
Do a search for this exact file name and remove if found
internat.dll

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Double click on SmitRem.exe to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SystemLoader] C:\WINDOWS\sysldr32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ControlPanel] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd32.exe internat.dll,LoadKeyboardProfile
O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - msupdate32.dll (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot back to Normal mode

NOTE: You will have to reset your background in Display properties
XP users using the XP theme may experience a change to the Classic Windows theme. This can be changed on the themes tab of desktop properties.

Please post back a fresh hijackthis log
Let me know how things are running

Right ok, i've just done everything you've asked properly. no spyware running in background, went into safemode did everything that you asked but i couldnt find these files even with killbot search.

C:\WINDOWS\sysldr32.exe <-this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd32.exe <-this file, remember, DON'T remove something because it looks similiar
Do a search for this exact file name and remove if found
internat.dll

then did cleanup and smitrem after that then check those that you selected for me to do in hijackthis then rebooted everything is fine now, except i still cant ctrl alt & delete on desktop thats the only thing

if you can think of anything that will change this please help http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

thanks

Hold up, SmitRem should of helped you out, but we can still get that part
In safe mode, did you sign into the same account you are using now?

Can you do the following, I forgot to ask for both logs, but I did ask for a new hijackthis log

1. Please post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the Whole log made from SmitRem located here>> C:\Smitfiles.txt
3. Can you also do the following
From below, download and save look1.zip
UNZIP the contents to your desktop so you now have look.bat extracted
Double click on look.bat
A text file will open>>Post back the whole contents please

And here's the look1 contents report :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallpaper"=dword:00000000
"NoComponents"=dword:00000000
"NoAddingComponents"=dword:00000000
"NoDeletingComponents"=dword:00000000
"NoEditingComponents"=dword:00000000
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091
"NoActiveDesktop"=dword:00000000
"ClassicShell"=dword:00000000
"ForceActiveDesktopOn"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"="1"

There was no smitfiles.txt on the C drive at all.

Also on this pc there are 5 users, three that are admins and 2 that are standard accounts but the two that arn't can ctrl alt & delete to Task Manager and the 3 admins cant including me.

Maybe this information should help you.

OK i've just discovered the problem and its just a setting in the registry thats somehow changed you can either change this by doing the following

1. Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

2. Download this  Reg Fix

My machine is now cleared of the viruses my problem started with hope i've helped you with this if someone finds the same problem too

Many thanks

Nope, didn't help me at all
Take a look at the export from look1.bat
Code: [Select]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"="1"
That the setting of "1" is what disabled your taskmanager
I was going to change or get rid of
Funny enough however
If SmitRem is run properly, with the instructions I posted
A log would definitely be found!
And that registry fix you found would of been included in part of the fix from SmitRem
==========================================================

I've remove my instructions to fix that same registry setting!!!

You should still do some final cleanup
