Wow, I don't see any Anti-Virus software
Your way behind on windows updates also

Regardless, can you do the following please
Go to this link and run an online Virus scan at Panda's
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Reboot your computer afterwards

Come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log
Also post the full report from Panda's

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Help with Adtech2006, dcz, dez, winsocks.exe.ex, and more

Oh my god, I hope we can fix this soon since the last post I think some more things have popped up
At one point, it was so bad a whole bunch of unresolved CMD(.exe)I think) were lingering in the processes section of the task manager. I think of that winlogon thing, and I noticed one is in small letters and another is in all caps does this mean one of them is the real thing and the other is a virus named after it so as to confuse people%?
You don't need to answer these questions, I appreciate anything you can do for me.

Sorry for the delay Aidan
We are not done yet

I just wanted to get you to run an online virus scanner to start the cleaning process

Can you do the following please
==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run this yet

==Download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe
Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

If you don't have the newest version of Ad-Aware SE 1.06
Download and InstallAd-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
If the system restarts back to Normal mode you will have to do it again

In safe mode

Access your Add/Remove programs via control panel and remove any of the following found
MaxiFiles
Freeprod Toolbar

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer
Remain in safe mode

You MUST be in safe mode
==Double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop.  Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat.  Follow the prompts.

==Open Ewido anti-malware
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries if they still exist

Still a bit of work to do

Can you do the following please
Download:  Registry Search Tool from this link, it's a very small download
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Unzip and double-click "RegSrch.vbs"
Note: if your Antivirus or another program prompts about running a ".vbs" file, allow the script to run

In the open field copy and paste the below in bold then hit OK

ms32oobe.exe

Wait for the results and post them back here
Do the same for this entry please
Microsoft Windows Logon Process

Additionally, can you download Find.zip from below
Save it and UNZIP it to your desktop
Double click on Find.bat
A text file will open, copy and paste back the contents back here please

We still have to get rid of a bad service too

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

« Reply #9 on: January 02, 2006, 12:08:23 AM »
I don't have the time to do this tonight, but I just wanted to say, I have a SP4 update but the reason I did not update it is because last time I did so, all my directX software stopped working and I don't have WinXP. I can't install an older version of DirectX once a newer one is on, and for some reason, v.9.0b does not work well and stops Directx from functioning altogether. I am in need of DirectX for what I believe should be clear reasons. I did not wish to install SP4 simply because I did not want to lose access to DirectX. If you know a better download for SP4 then by all means let me hear about it, I have DirectX 9,0a I believe it was installed by Nero Burning software.  Also, I think you adressed this problem in your latest post but Winlogon was still running after I did all those things, and It prevented me from accessing the internet despite my connection, (this problem wassolved by running my Zonealarm firewall but I wouldn't mind a more permanent solution to this. Also, if you have any idea what the issue is, for some reason, despite it being set to boot at startup, Zonealarm has several times not done so without the settings having been changed in the slightest.

P.S., the system administrator at my school library has a Pandasoft program called Deep Freeze running on all the computers there. Is this program suggested for home use or would it hinder my activities? Thanks very much for what you've done so far.

I would do everything I posted besides doing the SP4 update for now
But we should try and resolve that problem, your system is less secure without the security updates
Without you following the other instructions and
Without the logs and info requested, I can't be of much help

Additionally, I need to see one more log please, I forgot to ask for it earlier
Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not attempt to run the fix portion

Don't worry about the file Avast found from Panda
It's a false positive
That file is safe

I can't go over your whole post right now, but can you do the following for now please

Delete these 2 files
C:\WINNT\System32\twvyb.ini
C:\WINNT\System32\twvyb.bak1

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start.  Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Okay, trouble here, the l2mfi.bat file, when I select and enter for #2, it gives me an error message saying :
cannot import regfixes\win2000def.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.

Also, it asks for a password for l2mfix, which I have not, then when I simply press enter, logon failiure and

Processing cleanup.
.The system cannot find the file specified.
Thesystem cannot find the file specified.
A duplicate file name exists, or the file cannot be found.
Could not find C:\WINNTSystem32\log.txt
.
' zip' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
The system is ready to reboot now. The log.txt will be in the l2mfix folder after the reboot if it does not open on its own. Please fix the missing file 020 with hijackthis after the reboot.
Press any ke to continue...

followed by an error messsage :
Cannot find the file 'restart.exe' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Maybe when I reboot I will be able to do what you told me but if not, please guide me through the steps I should take since what you told me to do seems not to work.
Thanks,
Aidan

Well, even though all those things happened, the log file still opened at startup so I guess I'll just follow, your directions and post it and the hijackthislog.

Check the help files with Avast
Certain scanners you may not need running
Of course, you will want Standard Shield and Internet email scanners running

Can you try the following
==Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix2.reg

Save this file on the desktop
Make sure to include REGEDIT4 and below in the code box

Double click on fix2.reg and allow to add/merge to the registry
Reboot the computer

Post back here a fresh hijackthis log, let me know how things are running

Also, Can you do this again
open the l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Well, check out the logs, see if there's anything there that needs checking, I'll also check for any strange stuff, but so far, I don't see any of the weird things that used to be running. although the avast! processes do seem to be there in large numbers (talk about using a lot of memory!)

Here are the two logs you asked for:

Also, my internet is no longer run by sympatico, so I now have to deal with another company. I am going to phone them tonight.

Once we are finished cleaning up the computer, do you have any clues as to what would be a smart way to backup my drives? Thank a bunch

Well, I'm pretty sure it was a false alarm
I'll tell yo what I did to cause it.
I had limewire running playin a song, I was trying to open itunes I had msn on and also I had only just shut off bit Torrent. If you think its Bit Torrent, I can get rid of it, and I'd like you to tell me if you know what thid DRWTSN.exe thing is. its annoying and I have no clue what it is and where it comes from. I really have a problem with giving my computer too damn many commands at once, maybe that's the problem...
Anyways.
