Modem chucking a spaz
« on: January 07, 2006, 09:37:27 PM »
Hi,

I recently reloaded a puter that had win 98 se to win xp pro. when i connected to da net in Xp, the modem makes a really funny howling noise, similar to the when made when it is connecting. it doesn't stop and is a real pain. i checked all the settings and turned the speaker off in control panel, but it still does it. i've had to resort to jamming a piece of sticky tape over the speaker to shut it up. the moden is a conextanat softk56 and when i loaded xp, it wouldn't accept the driver from the install cd that came with the modem, so i downlaoded the right ones for windows xp. can some one tell me whats going on with this as it is the biggest pain!

thanks in advance
me

ok, looks like it's a probelm with the driver. conexant have released a fixed version of the driver, if your stuck in the same limbo, go here and sign up at driverguide.com and download the file

yep, installed driver and it works fine. it took a little bit of fiddling around to get it to accept the driver, so if u want some help on how to install, PM me.
