Nothing And mean Nothing Can Get rid of this
« Reply #1 on: January 07, 2006, 11:28:14 PM »
Hi Matrix
Can I have you do the following please

==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run this yet,

==Download SmitRem.exe by Noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
DO NOT run it yet

==In the event you do not have the latest version of Ad-Aware
Download and Install Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06

Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Do Not run a scan yet

Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Save the rest of these instructions to a Notepad file saved to your desktop or Print them out for use in safe mode

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu

=Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Double click on SmitRem.exe to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. Remain in safe mode

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to "Perform a Full system scan" then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

If by chance, you have anything disabled on startup with Msconfig
Can you go to START>>RUN>>>type in
msconfig
Hit OK
Under the startup tab>>Enable all
Under the General tab>>Do a Normal startup
Apply it and close
This is important, too make sure I see all the bad guys in the log

Reboot back to Normal mode
Can you post back the following please

1. Post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the whole contents of the Ewido report
3. Post the Whole log made from SmitRem located here C:\Smitfiles.txt

That doesn't look like a normal log from Ewido's
What did you post?

Can you do the following please
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall Manager
Click the SAVE LIST button
Save this list too your desktop and then copy and paste back here the whole contents

I'm not sure where you saved the Ewido log
But by default it is saved to the Ewido folder
Located here
C:\Program Files\ewido\security suite\Reports

security suite may say anti-malware

I want to check on something
Download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe
Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

This tool must be run in safe mode to work properly if you are infected
Reboot to safe mode

Double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop.  Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat.  Follow the prompts.

Reboot back to Normal mode

Can I see the following

Post The entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder

If you get any more popups can you let me know what they're related too please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Sounds good, can you do the following please

If everything is running better
We should clear all your restore points to ensure you don't restore any nasties that may be residing in the
restore folders
Go to START>>RUN>>In the open field
type in msconfig
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"

Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer

Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of Turn off system restore
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point

When that's done, your version of SpywareBlaster is a bit out of date
Can you download the newest version from
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool
Save the installer to your desktop
Open your version of SpywareBlaster 3.4
Disable All protection
Access your add/remove programs via control panel and remove SpywareBlaster 3.4
When that's done, Install SpywareBlaster 3.5.1
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"

Open Spybot 1.4
Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Do that after every update

Make sure to keep up all all High Priority updates at Windows Updates
That's important in keeping your system secure

When the above is done, can you post one last Hijackthis log, let's make sure it looks good, thanks

Should I leave system restore on

I would, it's nice to have something to fall back on if you need it....

Did you, or are you still also using Starband's Satellite?
Just enquiring, you have an entry in your log indicating your running through their proxy server
It's legit, just want to make sure you still use the service and need it installed

I'll lock this topic if you have no further problems, let me know please
