hpothb07 virus or not?

I have found this in most of my folders on the system, its a hidden folder created at different times throughout the system some are TIF files some are DAT files, I deleted some a few days ago, on re-boot it said something about a corrupt MBR and my internet connection disappeared.

I have no problem accessing the PC which makes me think nothing is wrong with the mbr partition table and I have now sorted out the internet, but something is not right, these files have been there a while and I just didn’t think twice as I am not the only one to use this pc, AVG did find the exploit virus on the 10/12/05 this was deleted.
 
Looking through my pc I have all the (C:) drive windows files have turned blue, and all sub folders called spuninst should they be?
The first file is $hf_mig$ modified on the 6th Jan the day it all went wrong on the edit button I can undelete although I haven’t deleted anything since re-booting
 Also in the system 32 -  dllcache and  - drvstore have turned blue too any idea why?
 
There is an hpothb07 file in the (D:) area too.
 
System volume information access denied in windows explorer it says its been modified today.

New file named hpodCoreTemp in the history file another called hpodpc and a few more.
 
I am stuck, don’t know what to do :-(

When a security update, critical update, update, update rollup, driver, or feature pack installs GDR version files, the hotfix files are also copied to the %windir%\$hf_mig$ folder. This supports migration to the appropriate files if you later install a hotfix or service pack that includes earlier versions of these files. For example, consider the following scenario: 1. You apply a security update that installs a GDR version of File.dll with a version number of 5.2.3790.1000 and copies a hotfix version of File.dll with a version number of 5.2.3790.1000 to the %windir%\$hf_mig$ folder.

I wouldn't run 2 AV's on your computer, you appear to be running both Symantec's and AVG
I suggest you uninstall one of your AV's having more than one run in the background can cause conflicts and decrease system performance
Reboot afterwards

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows, post a fresh hijackthis log

I did that and lost all internet connection, whist I was offline I did a System Restore, it seems to have put most things right, but should any of the files in the C: be highlighted in blue? not sure i have seen them blue before.

I had to enable Microsoft ipv6 developer edition for the internet to connect, why?

Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED

Reboot your computer
That should get your log clean

It looks like you have AVG AV and firewall installed
It probably didn't get installed properly earlier or conflicted with Symantec's
I see entries related to the firewall now in your log
They weren't there before
That was probably the reason for loss of Internet connection
Many answers you have, before going and deleting things
Can be found by just using Google first to see if it's malicious

Hiya I installed the avg firewall yesterday, as the system had wiped off my avg, so decided to try the free 30 day trial for the firewall I am not quite sure its set up properly though.

    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select DO NOT Show hidden files and folders.
    * Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click OK.

Are those blue files still visible?
