No sound on reformated computer....????
« on: January 11, 2006, 10:58:57 AM »
Hi,
This machine im on now had all the back up disks lost except the windows ME cd. And when i went to reformat the hard drive just to see what would happen i used the back up disks from a different but alot newer computer so i could have windows xp.
Now even tho the disks where for a different computer everything except for the monitor and sound was working fine. I ended up getting the monitor driver installed fine....but i still have no sound.

The computer is probably from 2000 or so if it orig had ME on it. I dont know how to tell what driver i need to get sound im kinda a newbie with drivers and how to find out what hardware is in the computer. Can someone guide me thru what i need to do to find out what driver i need???

Have no idea who your computer and/or motherboard manufacturer is
But you will have to visit their website and get the latest drivers

If your not sure how to identify the proper manufacturer
Use a program such as
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

My motherboard manufacturer is: Micro-star international
Chipset: VIA Unichrome KM266Pro / KM400(A) / KN400(A)

Soundcard??(not sure): VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller

cooooool thanks again guestsolo you saved my (you know what) again!!!!! its fixed!!!!

ok for yatsuba: this is what worked for me i had to reinstall my driver and to find what one i needed i had to find out with the above program (everst) what mother board i had....write down your model number...then i clicked on the manufactures site and searched for my motherboards model number. Once it showed my motherboard it told me what exacly onboard via controler i had...it gave me my model number and i then when to my audio controllers (via) website and downloaded the proper driver from my audio onboard controller once i downloaded i then unziped the item (useing winrar you can something like winzip also) then i clicked on the setup.exe and it took me thru the driver install and it automaticaly rebooted the computer and once i was done i had sound.

Now if everything else on your computer is working properly it should work.... make sure your volumes are set right and mute is off. My problem was my driver wasnt right or something dont know if thats yours for sure or not. But if it isnt you should cheack this site out it helped me identify if i had a driver problem or not!! maybecheck this out 1st before installing drivers....

Okay looked up my motherboard modelnumber: MSI KM3M-V (MS-7061) / KM4M-L (MS-6734 v1)/KM4AM-L (MS7734 v2) / MS6786

So which one of these do I have to search? Tried some of them, but don't know which is the good one.

Sorry guys, forgot about this post
In Everest I usually click Motherboard>>Motherboard again
That gives you your info needed
You both got it figured out  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
