winxp problem
« on: November 25, 2001, 03:47:40 AM »
Hi everybody.
i just have a question about winxp. well, my friend had this problem actually. he just installed xp and found out that some of his programs didn\'t quite compatible with xp, he would then uninstall xp from \"add/remove program\". then that should bring him to his old win Me. but what happened was that he couldn\'t even go into the windows \'cause it says \"missing krnl.exe\". he would then got the file from somebody\'s computer who\'s using winMe.He would copied it to C:/windows/system/krnl386.exe
when he tried to restart and didn\'t work. it just says \"it is now safe to turn off your computer\". well, since he doesn\'t want to lose his data(i.e formatting C), he tried to install xp back by booting up using Me disk. he would go to D:/ and i guess he doesn\'t really know what the command is. he typed \"Extract\" and it didn\'t really do anything except extracting a whole bunch of files. he tried \"setup\", it says \"...cannot be run under dos\". does anybody know how to solve this? maybe how to install xp from dos? or any other way from not losing the old windows?
thanks a lot

Hi!

To Reinstall WinXP ...

Boot With Start Up Disc --Choose With CDRom support

Load Smart Drive ---makes things faster
run g:win9xsmartdrv 64000 64000
Where G: is your CDROM drive letter

Put your XP cd on the CD Rom
run G:I386WINNT.EXE   ---

Note1 :
Some FAT32 drive can only read by WinMe Win2k and WinXP --- so Win 98/95 stuff might mess up things more.

You might try to Reistall Win Me as well by
boot from cd
choose boot fron cd
with cdrom support
run G:WIN9XSETUP /IE
install on ALTENATIVE DIRECTORY
play Microsoft Pinball

Cool
