Do another system scan and save logfile with Hijackthis
Before copying the whole logfile
Click FORMAT>>Word Wrap

Then come back here and post a new hijackthis log
It won't have all the spaces

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

We need some tools to help fix this
Make sure you check for updates with Ad-Aware
Don't run a scan yet, but ensure it's updated

Download SmitRem.exe by Noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
Don't run it yet

==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run it yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Please  save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!

I need you too disable SpywareGuards protections
It may, and probably will interfere with any fixes we try
You can reenable the protections was we have you all clear of problems
Please leave it disabled until we have you clean
Open SpywareGuard>>Click on OPTIONS
under General protection options>>Uncheck all of them
SAVE settings
Exit SpywareGuard

RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Double click on SmitRem.exe to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. Remain in safe mode

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.quicknavigate.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.quicknavigate.com/bar.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.quicknavigate.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.quicknavigate.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.quicknavigate.com/search.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.quicknavigate.com/

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareStrike] C:\Program Files\SpywareStrike\SpywareStrike.exe /h

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Reboot back to Normal mode

Back in Normal mode
Use Internet Explorer and Run the online Panda ActiveScan
    * Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
    * A new window will open...click the big Check Now button.
    * Enter your Country.
    * Enter your State/Province.
    * Enter your e-mail address.
    * Select either "Home User or Company."
    * Click the big Scan Now button.
    * Allow the ActiveX component to install and download the files required for the scan. This may take a couple of minutes.
    * Click on Local Disks to start the scan.

When the scan is complete
 click See Report, then click Save Report and save it to your Desktop.

Can you post back the following please

1. Post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the whole contents of the Ewido report
3. Post the Whole log made from SmitRem located here C:\Smitfiles.txt
4. Post the report you saved from Panda's

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Spyware strike "your computer is infected"
« Reply #8 on: January 22, 2006, 12:54:21 PM »
Can you do the following
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Go to Start>>Run>>copy and paste into the open field

regsvr32 /u occache.dll

Hit OK
This will make a file become visible that needs to be deleted.

Find and delete the following files
C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\Sskknwrd.dll <-file
C:\WINDOWS\inf\fastvideoplayer.inf <-file
C:\WINDOWS\kl.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\ms2.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\tool2.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\country.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bqrufs5f.dat <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\paydial.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\q10pvbrv.dat <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\thun.dll <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uninstidctr.exe <-file

When that's done
Go to Start>>Run>>copy and paste into the open field

regsvr32 occache.dll

Hit OK
This will register occache.dll again
you can also go back and hide hidden files and folders by reversing the changes we did earlier

Your online without an active Anti-virus on your computer
This is definitely not safe
If you don't have your own to install

All the next ones have a free version
Please install ONLY ONE, more than one can cause conflicts

AVG 7 by Grisoft

Avast Home Edition by ALWIL

AntiVir Personal Edition Classic

BitDefender 8

No matter which one you choose, make sure it's updated and run a Complete system scan

Reboot the computer after it's done
Come back here and let me know how things are running
We just have some final cleanup
Post back one last hijackthis log

Additionally, I forgot to mention, after running SmitRem and booting back to Normal mode
NOTE: You will have to reset your background in Display properties
XP users using the XP theme may experience a change to the Classic Windows theme. This can be changed on the themes tab of desktop properties.

Spyware strike "your computer is infected"
« Reply #10 on: January 22, 2006, 04:51:11 PM »
I just want to double check on something
Ensure you are clear of Cws infection
==Download CWShredder.exe and save to your desktop, don't run yet

I'm not sure if you have the lastest version of Spybot 1.4
If you have an older version, can you uninstall it from add/remove programs please
Reboot if prompted
Open Spywareguard icon by the clock and click on FILE>>EXIT>>YES

If you don't have Spybot 1.4
Download and Install Spybot 1.4 from
HERE
 or HERE
It's a great addition to Ad-Aware
If you have the latest version of Spybot, still do the following
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and then download all updates

Click the "Search & Destroy" button on the left
"Check for Problems"---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED

Close all open Windows
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Double click to run CWShredder.exe with all other windows closed
Run the FIX and let it fix what ever it finds, if anything

Reboot the computer afterwards

Come back here and post one last hijackthis log, let me know how things are running please

Spyware strike "your computer is infected"
« Reply #13 on: January 23, 2006, 02:33:45 AM »
Good morning guestolo,
The spywarestrike malware seems to have gone, BUT just noticed this morning (and also last night) that when I switched on my computer i got an alert from Spyware Guard saying "An attempt has been detected to change Internet explorer settings. Internet explorer default page has been changed from about blank to none" and then Spyare guard gives me the option to either restore the old value or keep the new one. In sidestepped the question by simply closing the window as I didnt fancy either option..

Apart from this, all is running as smoothly as before the malware http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

here is the latest  logfile. Am off to work now, but will come back online again in 14hrs.

An attempt has been detected to change Internet explorer settings. Internet explorer default page has been changed from about blank to none" and then Spyare guard gives me the option to either restore the old value or keep the new one

ALLOW the change, this is one reason I wanted you too leave SpywareGuard disabled until After we had you clean
I don't want interference

Since it's now enabled, leave it that way, but allow the change next time prompted

Final Cleanup>>Clear your Restore folders
We don't need you restoring any nasties sitting idle in your sytem restore folders
Go to START>>RUN>>In the open field
type in msconfig
Hit OK
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"

Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer

Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of Turn off system restore
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point
To Protect yourself against future attacks
You should install
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
    *Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
    *Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"

Open Spybot 1.4
*Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Do the above after every update

*Keep up to date on Windows Updates (High-Priorties)
This includes Service pack 2
This is the most important step in keeping your system secure, it will provide needed security patches
Take a look at this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
Take note of the link on that page
   "What to know before you download and install"
Afterwards, visit Windows updates and install SP2, may take about 30 minutes or more on cable, dsl
If on slow connection such as Dial-up, you may want to order the free CD
Just a reminder
I recommend you Set to Autoupdate, if not,
make a habit of visiting Windows Updates and check for High Priority updates on a regular basis
Note: I prefer to run a tool such as Windows CleanUp! to clean your temp folders, etc...
and run a Disk Defragment before installing SP2

*Keep your Anti-Virus software updated and actively running in the background

You appear to have ZoneAlarm installed, it's a good choice for Firewall protection

*Check for updates with your anti-spyware programs and run a check on a regular basis
