Been getting this error at bootup, dont know where it came from or whats causing it, havent had much time to sit around and figure it out but the error is giving me this location C:\PROGRAM~1\INSTAL~1\{9156~1\SETUP.EXE it's been a real pain in the ass cause the computer wont fully boot unless I click "OK" to confirm or acknowledge the error, so any help on it asap would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Can I have you redownload Hijackthis from my signature below
Save it too a permanent folder on your harddrive
ONLY run hijackthis from this new location

I need to see everything, your controlling some entries on startup with msconfig

Go to START>>Run>>type in msconfig
Under the STARTUP tab>>>Enable all
Under the general tab>>Select Normal startup
Apply and Close
But don't restart the computer yet

Instead, come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Bootup error
« Reply #5 on: January 29, 2006, 02:47:53 PM »
=Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run it yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Please  save these below instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference

I need you too disable Ad-Aware's Adwatch, as it may/will interfere in any fixes we try
Keep it disabled please until after we have you completely clear of all problems

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it.
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically.
Uncheck both options.

RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections

  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido
NOTE: When Ewido is running, don't open any other Windows

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries: (if found)

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WB5Hack] HackIt.cmd
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpgConfVer] "F:\Program Files\UpgConf.exe" /v:9.01.00

04 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InstallShieldSetup] C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{E9156~1\setup.exe -rebootC:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{E9156~1\reboot.ini
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [wextract_cleanup0] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\DOCUME~1\SurReaL\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\"

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your computer  back to Normal mode

Back in Windows
Can I see the following

1. Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log
2. Post the report you saved earlier with Ewido's

Okay, but I still see one entry
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file)

Still needs fixed, but probably won't get repaired with Ad-watch running
EDIT>>>Woops, sorry, I see ad-watch isn't running in your processes

What happened to the Ewido report?
How's everything on your end? Any error message on startup?

Sorry, had some things around the house that I needed to do, but yeah the error message is gone, thank you very much, I dont know why but while I was in safe mode most text files werent even being shown on my system, the instructions I saved into notepad I had it saved on my desktop and when I was in safe mode it showed nothing there, then I booted back up in normal mode and I had to write down everything, but I went back into safe mode follow the instructions saved a report with ewido and when I booted back into windows normally it wasnt on my desktop, I have no idea why.

You may have entered under the hidden Adminstrator account in safe mode
Try right clicking the Start button and left click Explore

Expand (+) the following

Local Disk C: or F:
+Documents and Settings
+Adminstrator
Highlight the Desktop

Do you see the log?

The only thing I can think of is you didn't save the Ewido report to your desktop
I've never had a problem saving a report too desktop in safe mode  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':unsure:\' />

You may have saved it too the default location
In the
F:\Program Files\ewido\security suite\Reports folder or similiar
Oh well, if you saved it, it's somewhere on your computer
Either in the C or F drive
You could try to do a search for

*.txt
Use the asterisk
 on your C and F drives

When it's done searching look for a log similiar to this
Scan report_20060129.txt

Did you fix this entry with hijackthis?
If not do it now with all other windows closed
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file)
Reboot the computer
