« Reply #1 on: March 05, 2006, 11:50:18 AM »
I wanted to clear some of the orphaned entries in your log
Spybot's TeaTimer may interfere with this process

Can you do the following please
Open Spybot 1.4
Click MODE>>Advanced mode
Ok the prompt
Click on TOOLS in the bottom left>>Then click "Resident"
Uncheck only "Resident TeaTimer" on the right hand side
Allow the change

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AB41010D-4804-4793-A6A2-3B5EBE2348DD} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {ACB1E670-3217-45C4-A021-6B829A8A27CB} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {C11483F7-D7D8-4804-98D8-6055470BB989} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {42F2C9BA-614F-47C0-B3E3-ECFD34EED658} -
O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_04) -

O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_03) -
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0004-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_04) -

Your Java is outdated, we should update you too the latest version later
Put a tick next to these entries too
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\jusched.exe

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\npjpi150_04.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\npjpi150_04.dll

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer one more time, come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log please

even though the problem seems to be gone, when i scanned my com using adaware, it detected the alcan worm again, does that indicate it's still wrecking havoc in my com?

We should still do some final cleanup
But, could you do the following again
Ad-Aware just had some recent updates today
Can you download the latest updates

Do another scan with Ad-Aware,
When the scan is complete
If Alcan is still found, (may not , could of just cleared some residuals last time)
Before cleaning the Objects can you click the SHOW LOGFILE button

Then copy and paste the whole logfile back here please

HJT log after cleaning Win32.P2P-Worm.Alcan.a
« Reply #6 on: March 07, 2006, 11:50:07 PM »
The bad files that Ad-Aware is finding is in your system restore folders
Thats part of my prevention speech

*If everything is running better
Final Cleanup
We should clear all your restore points to ensure you don't restore any nasties that may be sitting idle
Go to START>>RUN>>In the open field
    Type in
msconfig
Click OK
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"
Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer
Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of "Turn off system restore"
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point
Protect yourself against Future Attacks
*Install  SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"

*Keep up to date on Windows updates
This is one of the most important steps in keeping your system secure
If not set to AutoUpdate, make a habit of regularly checking for updates at least once a month

Don't forget to keep up to date of Microsoft Office updates for security reasons
A link is supplied at Windows updates>>>Office Family

*Make sure your Anti-Virus software is always kept up to date and actively running in the background

*Make sure your Firewall is enabled and running
A Firewall is very important
This provides a line of defense against someone who might try to access your computer without your permission

*Check for updates with your anti-spyware programs and run a scan on a regular basis
In addition, Open Spybot 1.4
Click on Immunize>>OK>>Immunize at the top green cross
Please immunize after every update

*If you downloaded the free version of Ewido, hold onto it
A couple weeks after installation it will become a limited version
Still a very effective scanner in the limited state to update and run once
a month
