Most of the free ipod sites out there on the internet are either scams, or they aren't available to people outside the US. There are now some sites available for residents of the UK, Canada, and even Germany.
I'm a Canadian resident and within two weeks I have gotten all the referrals I need to get a free iPod, so I can vouch that it IS possible, just takes a bit of work and dedication. To find out what sites are legit you should check the forums at Anything4Free.com or FreeIpodGuide.com (these guys have been "playing the game" for some time and know which sites will actually deliver the items promised).
