I need help with DVD burning
« on: April 04, 2006, 06:30:56 PM »
Hi,

First, please don't flame me. I have tried to read on this, but can't quite understand what I need to do. I would like to be able to burn DVD's because my kids are constantly ruining thier DVD's. Please tell me exactly what I need (programs, hardware, etc,) and what I need to do. My computer has a Sony CD RW and a DVD Rom. I don't even know what that means, but that's what I have.

Any help would be appericated, please explain to me as if I have never heard of any of this stuff.

Thanks,
Cari

You need a good DVD burner. This one is affordable and has really great reviews: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827151095 Plus, most of the high dollar brands just put thier name on drives made by the same company. If you need a beige colored one, this is the same model in beige: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827151096
Here is a website that reviews the DVD burning software: http://dvd-copy-video-reviews.com/ Personally, I would buy the 1Click DVD Copy. It includes a link to download the ripper for backing up DVD movies. You will need to have someone install the DVD burner in your computer. It will also burn CDs, so you wont need the CD burner.

Yep, sounds good. I also suggest, especially to burn copy protected movies, DVD Decrypter www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/ dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm . Also, make sure that the burner you buy will burn both + and - dvd discs, all recent ones should. Also, you may fins that your DVD player may only plave a + or a - disc, so experiment with it b y burning a movie on each and try and play them. That way, you know that you only have to buy one type of disc, not both.

Happy Burning.

DVDXCopy Platinum was made by 321 Studios, who are now out of business. The software requires you to activate it online, which is no longer possible. Even if you could get it activated, they are prohibited by law from including the DVD ripping component. DVDXCopy is also $90 more than 1ClickDVDCopy, and $50 more than Video Vault, but lacks some of thier features.
