Ctrl+ALT+DEL problem....
« Reply #2 on: April 25, 2006, 09:03:02 PM »
Just as a double check
Can you do the following please, lets see what your log looks like afterwards

Can you open "MyComputer"
Double click to open Local Disk C: drive
Right click an empty spot  and left click NEW>>Folder
A new folder will be placed in the C: folder , name it BFU
So you now have C:\BFU

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller
Reminder, choose SAVE rather than OPEN
Then Extract (UNZIP) the contents to the (C:\BFU) folder you just made
So you now have C:\Bfu\bfu.exe

RIGHT CLICK HERE
 and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download  Alcanshorty.bfu.
Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU)
So you now have C:\Bfu\alcanshorty.bfu

==Download and install Windows CleanUp! 4.5.1
Don't run this yet
NOTE: If you have an older version of Windows CleanUp!, Please uninstall it and use this newer version

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck
 "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can take a look at the following link to help with
the updating
http://www.ewido.net/en/support/?AID=26

Please save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu
In safe mode

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done>>Click Close
DECLINE to Log off or Restart the computer

=Open the C:\BFU folder
Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to alcanshorty.bfu in the C:\BFU folder
Right click alcanshorty.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Wait for the "complete script execution" box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

==Open Ewido Anti-malware
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to the desktop or someplace you will remember
Exit Ewido
NOTE: When Ewido is running, don't open any other windows, let it run uninterrupted

Afterwards, reboot back to normal mode

Post back a fresh hijackthis log and the Whole report from Ewido's

the location of these files are in "C:Uploads"

That looks good
I wish I could of seen a couple logs
 but can you still do the following please

Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop, leave it there for now, we'll need it later
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole]
"EnableDCOM"="Y"

You don't have your own personal Anti-Virus software installed on the computer

Please install one of the following
ONLY install one, more than one can cause conflicts with each other
AVG 7 by Grisoft

Avast Home Edition by ALWIL

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic

After you choose which one your prefer
Make sure it is updated, don't run a scan in Normal mode
Instead
Reboot into safe mode
Run a full system scan
After the scan with your new AV is done
Double click on fix.reg and allow to add/merge to the registry

Reboot back to Normal mode

Post back a fresh hijackthis log and let me know how things are running please

Can you do the following
Run Kaspersky online virus scan from this LINK

After the updates have downloaded, click on the "Scan Settings" button.
Choose the "Extended database" for the scan.
Under "Please select a target to scan", click "My Computer".
When the scan is finished, Save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from Kaspersky scan

Could you also
Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.
 • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
 • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
 • Click "Next"
 • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
 • Click "Finish"
A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix
 • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
 • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt
 • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread. (c:\haxfix.txt)

Let's see if we can kill it this time
Can you do the following please

From the bottom of this reply box, Download and choose SAVE from the selection
and Save skylimit.zip to your desktop
Do not choose open
 • Right click skylimit.zip on your desktop, and choose Extract All
 • Click "Next"
 • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
 • Click "Browse"
 • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
 • Click on "Local Disk (C:)
 • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
You should now have>>  C:\skylimit.txt

Please save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu

Go to START>>RUN>>type the following below exactly and then click OK

sc stop "winconnew"

Do the same for this one

sc delete "winconnew"

Afterwards
==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done>>Click Close
DECLINE to Log off or Restart the computer

Double click on fix.reg that you saved earlier and allow to add/merge to the registry

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to this entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [newm] C:\WINDOWS\system32\newm.exe

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
Ensure Load Script from File: is selected
and then click the folder Icon on the right side of that section.
Then browse to C:\skylimit.txt
Left click once to Highlight it and then click Open
To Select it
Click on the "Traffic light" icon and OK the prompt
You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it back to Normal mode

Back in Windows, post back the following

1. Post a fresh Hijackthis log
2. Again, post the report from Avenger>>C:\avenger.txt

How are you so clever and know all this stuff?
A lot of reading and experimenting
And a great thanks to all the makers of some great software and Experts who come up with fixes
Eg..Merijn's contribution with Hijackthis and BFU
Metallica's script used with BFU
Swandog46's tool Avenger

Now, if just the Original poster will come back and carry on with the fixes
We should hopefully have him all clean
