Hi jme, can I see a different log from hijackthis please
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall manager
Click the SAVE LIST.. button
Save this list to your desktop
Come back here and copy and paste the list back please

To ensure there are no spaces in the log as you have in your previous one
When you open this list in notepad, click Format>>Ensure Word Wrap is UNCHECKED
Then copy and paste back here

Note: I've never heard of DropSpam, I was curious so I'm testing it on my test computer to see how it reacts
and uninstalls

Once you post the above log, I'll post instructions for removal

I read somewhere that a message box comes up and asks if you want to install this program and even if you click no, that it will download anyway....must of been what happened to me because I never would have downloaded this program. I found some info at the website below if you want more info about Drop Spam.

I was a bit longer than expected

I had no problem removing it, but it left some files and folders and registry entries behind

Can you do the following please
Let's create a fresh restore point before we proceed
Go to START>>All programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Click "Create a Restore point"
Name it and click Create

When that's done

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop. (rightclick on this link and choose save as, if using IE save target as)
 • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
 • Click "Next"
 • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
 • Click "Browse"
 • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
 • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
 • Click "Make New Folder"
 • Type in BFU
 • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
I've uploaded a file called "DropSpam.zip"

So you now have C:\BFU\DropSpam.bfu

==Download and install Windows CleanUp! 4.5.1
Don't run this yet
NOTE: We are going to use this to cleanup your temp folders, prefetch, etc...
CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

Please save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!

We need to disable some of your protections so they won't interfere with any fixes that we try
Open SpySweeper
Disable any that may apply:
click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

You have Norton's script blocking running, can I have you disable it till we are done here
   1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
   2. Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
   3. In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
   4. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
   5. Click OK.

When that's done
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu
Log in with your normal user account
In safe mode

Access your Add/Remove programs and remove the following in this order
Drop Spam 1.0.0.48
Highlight the above and click Remove>>Uninstall
At the prompt in the empty box, type
uninstall
Click the "Confirm-Please Proceed"
Let this finish and close any IE window that may open

Next in add/remove
Remove Lifestyle . Dropspam
Then remove
Internet Explorer - Dropspam

Remain in safe mode
=Open the C:\BFU folder
Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to DropSpam.bfu in the C:\BFU folder
Right click DropSpam.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Wait for the "complete script execution" box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
NOTE: If you get a prompt about running in safe mode, click YES to remain in safe mode please

Afterwards:
==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
The first time CleanUp! is ran it will prompt to run in demo mode
decline this, we want to run the actual Cleaning on the computer
If you do run in demo mode the first time to see what it is removing, make sure to run the clean mode afterwards
When it's done>>Click Close
DECLINE to Log off or Restart the computer

Stay in safe mode
Access "Internet Options" via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"

Reboot back to Normal mode

When you first open IE it may take a few seconds to detect network settings
Come back here and run a fresh scan and save logfile with hijackthis and post a fresh log

Ensure that before you copy the log in notepad, you click Format and uncheck Word wrap please

Possible DROP SPAM problem....please help
« Reply #6 on: June 10, 2006, 12:05:21 PM »
That looks good, you should still do the following

You appear to be a SBC Yahoo subscriber, which includes the free security suite
Not a bad thing, but it also contains Anti-Virus software
You also have Norton's AV installed

If Yahoo's AV is all over protection, which I assume it is, supplied from Computer Associates
I would disable one AV entirely from running on startup or uninstall it
Having more than one AV actively running in the background can cause operating system instabilities and slow down your computer

Plus>Access your add/remove programs and I suggest you remove the following

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
It's old and outdated, we'll update it in a bit
and
Viewpoint Media Player

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O16 - DPF: {C4925E65-7A1E-11D2-8BB4-00A0C9CC72C3} (Virtools WebPlayer Class) - http://a532.g.akamai.net/f/532/6712/4h/pla...0/Installer.exe

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer afterwards

Back in Windows
Go to the following link
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
I find the Windows OFFLINE installation the best to update Java
Save the installer to desktop
Double click to install and follow the prompts

When that's done

Come back here and let me know how things are running please
Could you also let me know if you still have SpySweeper installed

« Reply #7 on: June 11, 2006, 12:26:44 AM »
I deleted the spysweeper program when you told me to disable it because it was an expired trial version.

I went ahead and uninstalled Norton and started using the sbc yahoo...when I did a scan it detected dropspam and I had it removed...I thought we had already removed it?? What do you think?

By the way......thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the help you have given me.

You can do another scan with Hijackthis and with all windows closed fix checked this entry
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

It's nice to see you already have SpywareBlaster installed, so I don't have to recommend it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
Please keep it updated

Along with Ad-Aware as your anti-spyware scanner
I would also install
Spybot 1.4, you can download it from
HERE
 or HERE
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and then download all updates
After update is complete
Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Click the "Search & Destroy" button on the left
"Check for Problems"---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED

RESTART the computer if any red entries were checked and fixed
Do the above after every update

I'm curious where your AV found traces of DropSpam, do you have a log you can post from it?
I may of missed a stray file or registry entry, but the main problem should be gone
