Run OS from CD
« on: February 11, 2002, 10:15:23 AM »
Hi, i once read an article about running an OS (windows) from CD. Sure you have to stay on the same computer/hardware, but it was possible to boot an image. Can anyone help me out ?

iI\'ve also wondered about this myself, but have never seen any documentation about this as far as Windows goes. I know that this is possible with a Linux system (SuSE).

I remember the article but not where.  The only thing I do remember is that you need a floppy or zip to handle the temp and swap files.  Otherwise it\'s just a matter of coding, I think?
Hope this Helps,

Windows can run without the swap file and a tmp folder, but it\'s probably best to have those to keep it from complaining.  Now I haven\'t tried this, but if you have plenty of ram I bet it wouldn\'t be a big deal to make a ram disk, then place the tmp folder and swap file on the ram disk.
