Help PLEASE!!
« on: August 05, 2006, 10:29:05 AM »
Hello,

If someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.... My homepage seems to keep redirecting to different pages.

Mainly these three:

1.) http://view.atdmt.com/CNT/iview/247macin03....728%3Bhi.90/01
2.) http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N3989.24/B1844833.5%3Bsz
3.) http://c1.zedo.com/jsc/c1/ff2.html%3Fn

I have tried VirusScan, Spy Sweeper, Hijack This, Hoster, Ad-Aware, SpywareBlaster, CWShredder, Privacy Eraser, Spybot, and Spyware Guard and can't seem to figure out what is wrong.

Again Thanks in advance.........
Here is my Hijack This log:

« Reply #1 on: August 05, 2006, 12:57:45 PM »
Can you do me a favor please
Let's make sure that you spyware protection programs aren't interfering with us

I don't have SpySweeper installed, but let's disable it for now
Open SpySweeper and in the left margin click Shields
Click the "Internet Explorer" tab and uncheck the following:

    * IE Favorites Shield
    * IE Security Shield
    * Broswer Helper Object (BHO) Shield
    * IE Hijack Shield

Click the "Windows System Shields" and uncheck the following:

    * ActiveX Shield
    * Alternate Data Stream Shield
    * Windows Messenger Service Shield
    * Memory Shield
    * Spy Installation Shield
    * Spy Communication Shield
    * Keylogger Shield

Click the "Host File" tab and uncheck the Host File Shield
Click the "Startup Programs" tab and uncheck the Startup Items Shield
Now click the "Options" in the left-hand margin and Click the "Program" tab
Uncheck under the "Other Options at the right "Start SpySweeper at Windows Startup"
Is this the trial version of SpySweeper?

SpywareGuard: Right click the SpywareGuard icon by the clock
Click on OPTIONS
Uncheck all checked entries under "General Protection Options"
SAVE SETTINGS
Exit SpywareGuard

Reboot the computer

Can you right click on HijackThis.exe on your desktop, rename it to
Analyze.exe

Do a fresh "SCAN and Save a Log file"
Post back the fresh hijackthis log
Keep your protections disabled please
Let's see if your log changes

Could you also, close Analyze(hijackthis) and then reopen it
Open the "Misc tools section" Open "Hosts file manager"
Click the "Open in Notepad" button
A text file will open in notepad, can you copy>>Paste back here the whole contents please

I'm not sure if you get the point, I want to disable your spyware protections so they won't interfere with any home page changes
Now you have windows defender installed

Can you do the following
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Make sure to reboot the computer
Back in Windows
Post a fresh hijackthis log

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

hello again....

Sorry about the windows defender download....I was just checking out what that program was all about.  I completely removed it from my computer altogether.  I have done everything else that you described in previous steps...so we should be fine now.  All SpySweeper shields have been unchecked and Spyware Guard has been disabled also.

Here are the two new logs...Analyze(Hijack) This and hosts file):

Let's try a couple steps, although some entries are legit
We'll set them later

==Download DelDomains.inf from HERE
Save it to desktop of infected computer
Don't run it yet
If using a browser such as Firefox, Right click on that link and choose "Save link as.."

==Right Click on DelDomains.inf>>Choose Install from the menu bar
This will delete all your Trusted and Ranges entries

Download and install Windows CleanUp! 4.5.2

CleanUp! attempts to delete files from various temporary directories (including download directories/caches),
as well as emptying the Recycle Bins.
If you make a habit of saving files that you wish to keep in any of these places,  they will be deleted when CleanUp! is run.
Please move them too a different location before we run this tool if the above is true
Note: It is generally considered poor practice to use temporary folders or the Recycle Bin to store files you intend to keep.

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done>>Click Close
DECLINE to Log off or Restart the computer
NOTE: The first time you run CleanUp! it may prompt to run in Demonstration mode
Deny this, we want to run the actual cleanup!!

==Right Click on DelDomains.inf>>Choose Install from the menu bar
This will delete all your Trusted and Ranges entries

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.google.com/hws/sb/dell/en/side.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?p...amp;ar=iesearch
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://alabama.rivals.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.microsoft.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.microsoft.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.microsoft.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.google.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://ie.search.msn.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://ie.search.msn.com
O2 - BHO: DAPHelper Class - {0000CC75-ACF3-4cac-A0A9-DD3868E06852} - blank (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows
Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Come back here and post a fresh hiajckthis log please

Is your home page still being redirected?
It appears you purposely set it too
http://alabama.rivals.com/

Is that correct?

So far...So good...

Yes, I did set the homepage to alabama.rivals.com.
There does not appear to be any redirection from my homepage or any other websites that I can see right now.

Does that mean that I can turn my utilities (SpySweeper, SpywareGuard, etc.) back on??

Open SpywareBlaster>>check for updates
Enable all Protection afterwards, you will have to do this since we used DelDomains

Go ahead and enable the protections with SpySweeper
Since you have the paid version of SpySweeper, do you also need SpywareGuard installed?
I like SpywareGuard, but  the protections in SpySweeper should supply the same protections

Your option to have multiple protections doing the same job
If you get any prompts from any of your SpywareProtections about any changes
ALLOW them so they won't interfere with any fixes we have just done

Sorry for the delayed reply...

I wanted to bounce from webpage to webpage and back to my homepage a couple of times to make sure that the problem was gone.   Unfortunately .... It's back...

I guess that the redirection problem was only temporarily fixed from all of the steps we took.

Maybe the problem is in the registry??

I enabled all of the SpySweeper shields again and that is the point at which I noticed that the redirection problem was back as soon as I started internet explorer again.

This is exactly what happens.....my homepage redirects to this exact address:

 http://www.google.com/hws/dell/afe?hl=en&a...id=243&fwd=

This is a Dell Search Page and on that page it says ....  "Sorry, we couldn't find http://view.atdmt.com/TRU/iview/xprcltru00...4711/01%3Fclick. Here are some related websites: "

You are not going to believe this......

I solved the issue!!!!!!

I can't believe it took so long to figure out something that was so simple.
It appears that the problem had to do with SpySweeper.  I altered one single shield and set "allow the commom ad sites" under host file shields and now I don't seem to have any problems at all..  I have been surfing everywhere and going back and forth to my homepage with no problems.

Again, I can't thank you enough for your help today!
I am so thankful that there are people out there such as yourself to help!!!

This site will definately get a donation out of my next check!
