WINXPPRO | Mouse Issues

This one\'s *really* bugging the hell out of me.  After a few minutes after a fresh start of WinXP Pro, my mouse will suddenly and unexpetedly start to pause and skip while making any movement.  The following event appears in my Event Log:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: i8042prt
Event Category: None
Event ID: 12
Description:
The ring buffer that stores incoming mouse data has overflowed (buffer
size is configurable via the PS/2 mouse properties in device manager).

I have tried increasing the Input Buffer Length, as well as using a different mouse.  Nothing seems to help.  Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon 850
ASUS K7V-RM (ver. 103a BIOS) [using onboard audio, ugh!]
2 X 128MB PC133 RAM
3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
40GB Maxtor 7200 RPM
ESS ES56T-PI Data Fax Modem
D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter

The above-listed BIOS version is the only one available from ASUS.  All applicable drivers are WHQL certified.  I have even tried using VIA\'s current 4-in-1 drivers.  By the way, this was never an issue with WIN98SE or W2KPRO.

Any ideas???

Uninstall any mouse drivers restart and let winxp pro find your mouse as a simple ps2 mouse .
I have a logitech marble mouse but I never installed the logitech software in winxp pro . Works fine with the ps2 driver of windows xp pro .
Good luck !

I have tried both standard XP/PS2 mouse drivers as well as vendor-specific drivers to no avail.  I have increased the buffer size.  I have also swapped my Logitech with a standard Microsoft Intellimouse.  The same thing happens.  I just checked the HCL and noticed that my motherboard has \"No Test Data\" relating to XP

I have even switched to three different external modems (since this usually only happens when I am dialed in).  There is only one version of BIOS available for my motherboard (unless you think it might be safe to use a BIOS from a similar model, like the K7V).  It appears that I am just S.O.L. running XP with my configuration.  Looks like I will have to revert back to WIN2KPRO.  This so much sucks!
