xp installation file compression format

file in windows xp i386 folder in compress in what format.
if i wanted to make some changes to it files then compress to its own format so i can put back the file in it own folder so windows installation will use my modified file

thanks. what software i should use to compress it.

i able to uncompress the files. but unable to compress the file to a format where windows xp installation will recognize it

just re-name the file back to it\'s original name, XP will see this as a 0% compressed file.

Either what The_Flames said or you can use this here: http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/download/cab-sdk.exe.

This is the Microsoft CAB SDK, which has the compression program to compress the files again.

At that website there is also some other useful stuff if you\'ve got to handle Windoze; i don\'t think that the files there are illegal to download or warez (AFAIK the CAB SDK ist part of the IEAK too, so in case you\'ve got this you have the CAB SDK as well).
