I did install IE6 on my Win2000 Pro few days ago. Since then I got in trouble with my system: after half an hour of work, Windows Explorer stopped to work properly, the desktop did not refresh anyway, and I had to reboot.
So I uninstalled IE6 reverting to 5.5, but I still had some problem. It took longer to occur, but it still occurred. So I decided to stop using IE and began to use NS6. Really better. Now I can work a couple of hour, but then Windows Explorer hangs anyway. It looks like a memory leak. Furthermore, when it occurs, I have a sequence of periodic I/O accesses on harddisk, one per second, about.
I used SFC to check the system integrity. It is OK.
Now the point is: is there a way to understand what is happening? That is, who is accessing the HD and hanging my system?
TIA
