Am I infected?
« on: September 06, 2006, 10:30:33 AM »
Hi, I am new to this whole posting thing, hope I am doing it correctly.

I keep getting a mysterious "window" opening and closing in the task bar, but an actual new window never opens on the screen.

Here is my hijack log file. Can someone help me please?

Thanks

I'm having a tough time really trying to figure out what's going on
I don't understand what you mean a new window opens in the taskbar?

Can you open your taskmanager and see what process is opening with it?

Please supply a startuplist from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section
Beside 'Generate a Staruplist'
Check the following
List all minor sections(full)
and
List empty sections(complete)

Afterwards click the button Generate a Staruplist
Click Yes to the prompt
A text file will open
Copy>>Paste back here the whole contents please

Am I infected?
« Reply #3 on: September 19, 2006, 08:24:18 AM »
Thanks for the reply, and your help.
I have attached the start up list below.

I try and catch what process it is in Windows task manager but it is too quick (or i am too slow) and it disapears. I dont know if it is anything I need to worry about, I just never have seen it on any computer before. I also have just noticed that I have to click the "Back" button on Internet Explorer several times before it actually goes back a page.

I have run my Norton anitvirus, SpySweeper and SpyProtector every which way and they all show nothing.
Ran Pc Pitstop Exterminator and it shows the following:

Threat Name                                              Catergory                     Item Count
  Limewire                                                      P2P                                   2
  KaZaA                                                          P2P                                  1
  Trojan-Downlader.Win32.Delf.ks                    Trojan                                 2

Am I infected?
« Reply #4 on: September 19, 2006, 02:40:10 PM »
Can I see a couple of logs please

Download and save too desktop
 F-Secure Blacklight(blbeta.exe)

    Double click to run blbeta.exe
    * Accept the user agreement.
    * Click Scan.
    * After the scan finishes, click on Next, then Exit.
Do not rename any files if found by blacklight, I need to see the log

BlackLight will create a log on your desktop with the name "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log".

+ Download GMER from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it to the desktop.

Open the program and click on the Rootkit tab.
Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
Click on Scan.
When the scan has run click Copy and paste the results (if any) into this thread.

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Can you do the following
You have both SpySweeper and Windows Defenders realtime protections running
Can I have you disable them both

Window's Defender
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

To disable SpySweeper:

Open it, click > Options over to the left then > click the Program tab > Uncheck "Start Spy Sweeper at Windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields"
  • Click the "Internet Explorer" tab and and uncheck all there.
  • Click the "Windows System" tab and uncheck all there.
  • Click the "Host File" tab and uncheck all there.
  • Click the "Startup Programs" tab and uncheck "Startup Items Shield".
You seem to have Hijackthis downloaded to your desktop, run it from there, if you No longer have it saved to that location
REDOWNLOAD Hijackthis 1.99.1
From my signature below and save too a permanent folder of it's own onto your harddrive
ONLY run hijackthis from this new location

==Open your Windows control panel>>Open the Java icon
Under General>>Delete Files
Leave all 3 entries selected and click OK
Under the UPDATE tab uncheck "Check for updates autmatically"
Apply and OK out of there

==Can you Download>>Save
Codestuff Starter from HERE
Extract(UNZIP)Startersetup.exe from within to your desktop
Double click on the Startersetup.exe
Click NEXT>>Check ACCEPT the Terms>>then click NEXT
Beside Select the type of Install, in the drop down menu select "Tiny (Application only"
Then Click NEXT>>Select Language click NEXT>>NEXT

Run Starter, as troubleshooting steps let's disable some entries you may not need on startup
We can reenable them later if you need them
  From within starter,
UNCHECK an item on the right to disable on startup
Entries related to the following

Under Registry
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Component Manager] "C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] "C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\Support.com\BellSouth\hcenter.exe" /starthidden /tgcmdwrapper

Under Startup folders uncheck
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: HP Image Zone Fast Start.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Quicken Scheduled Updates.lnk = C:\Program Files\Quicken\bagent.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

==Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]ATF-Cleaner[/color] by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

This will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. please move them to a different directory first.

Reboot the computer afterwards

Back in Windows
Bootup may be a bit slower as we just cleaned your prefetch with ATF-Cleaner
This will speed up on next boot up

Post a fresh hijackthis log and let me know how things are running

Use one anti-spyware protections
More than one may cause slowdowns and not do a better job
I see this entry in your hijackthis log

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Spy Protector] "C:\Program Files\Security Task Manager\SpyProtector.exe" /autostart

I have never used it or recommended it
If you want to keep it, please disable it on startup with Codestuffs'

Afterwards, ONLY use either Windows Defender or SpySweepers realtime protections
DON'T enable both
Reboot the computer and let me know how things are running

it could be that you had to many protections running that caused the slowdowns

P.S, You may have the paid version of Kazaa installed
Although not malware itself, it is not recommended and can install malicious software also
I only post this as a heads up!
This indicates the entries I am referring too

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Running great now, unbelievable!!

I was kinda getting desperate with all that anti spy-ware. Got rid of Spy-protector. I know better now. Thank You.

Took off Kaza (wife put that and limewire (already taken off) on -although she wont put either on her new laptop)

Can't thank you enough. This computer had been neglected since I had a work laptop.  Got rid of the laptop, along with the work.  I will now be nicer to this one.

Thanks again for your time and knowledge, learned ALOT!
