hard drive issue
« on: March 25, 2002, 12:34:42 PM »
I have an issue with my hard drive obviously. I have a 20 gb but my system is only reconizing 8 gb. I\'ve deleted the partition and that didn\'t work either. I\'ve formated with a software from the company (maxtor). Nothing reconizes it. Help.

2 possible causes
You are using NT4 pre SP3??
or
Your bios is unable to read more than 8GB of the drive.
Look for a bios update.

dont low level format the drive !. what said by Big_Z , what you can do is get the bios update from the manufacturer of the motherboard. if you are not sure about updating bios, then you can use disk manager to install the drive, remember only use maxtor disk manager to install your drive cause your drive is a maxtor drive.  i think this is bios limitation or inproper installation of the drive.  if you still unable to install it on your system, then try on a different machine,. if still having the same problem. contact maxtor for replacement
