Computer Protection Confusion
« on: October 09, 2006, 11:36:46 AM »
Hi, ive got a new computer which has XP SP2 preinstalled. I know this has built in protection facilities but i was wondering if these would interfere with My AV, AS and firewall software.

My AV software consists of Anti virus, Anti spyware and a firewall so do i need to switch off the ones buit into SP2? One more thing, i have spyware guard and spyware blaster so should these be turned off too?

Thanks

Spywareguard and SpywareBlaster are great tools from Javacool
I would leave them installed
You won't have problems with SpywareBlaster as it set's killbits in the registry to help prevent malware

Is SpywareGuard slowing the computer at all?
If not you can leave it installed

However, I'm not sure what AV>>Antispyware>>Firewall your running

Of course you want to keep your AV running
Keep the Firewall running also, most Firewall software when installed will disable the SP2 firewall built into Windows
You can check this in the Windows Control panel
If in fact, you have your installed Firewall running and the SP2 firewall, you should be safe turning off the SP2 firewall
Like AntiVirus software, you ONLY want one firewall running as so there are no conflicts and system instabilities

Which Antispyware product do you have installed?
I'm not sure if it will supply the same protections as spywareguard

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

My av software is a freebie from NTL called netguard, the windows firewall appears to be active and so is my other one, so which should i disable?

Spyware blaster doesnt seem to be slowing my comp down.

So does anything need disabling or uninstalling?

Thanks

I think i have it sorted now. I turned off the windows firewall and it said a firewall was still active, i presume this is my netguard one and if you say SB and SG wont cause conflict with other antispyware's ithink its good.
