Svchost.exe Application Error and Generic Host Process for Win32 Servi
« Reply #1 on: October 15, 2006, 10:55:56 AM »
It could be a few reasons this is happening
Something is possibly trying to connect to the outside world and is being interrupted
When did this start happening?
Did you download>>install the latest Windows Updates?
Can you check a setting for me please
Open your Windows Control panel and double click the Automatic updates icon to open it
What setting do you have selected?

Can you do the follow for me
Just as a double check
==Download this file - Combofix.exe and save it too desktop
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Post the log from combofix please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Svchost.exe Application Error and Generic Host Process for Win32 Servi
« Reply #3 on: October 17, 2006, 06:54:15 PM »
Sorry for the delay, can you do the following please
Let's see if we can find anything else hiding
Use Internet Explorer and Run the online Panda ActiveScan
    * Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
    * A new window will open...click the big Check Now button.
    * Enter your Country.
    * Enter your State/Province.
    * Enter your e-mail address.
    * Select either "Home User or Company."
    * Click the big Scan Now button.
    * Allow the ActiveX component to install and download the files required for the scan. This may take a couple of minutes.
    * Click on Local Disks to start the scan.

When the scan is complete
click See Report, then click Save Report and save it to your Desktop.

Afterwards
I need to see everything running on startup
Go to START>>RUN
type in msconfig

Under the STARTUP tab>>Enable all and Apply it
Under Services tab>>enable all and apply it
Under the general tab ensure Normal startup is selected
Apply it and Close
Restart your computer at the prompt

Come back here and post the whole report from Panda's and a fresh hijackthis log

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Svchost.exe Application Error and Generic Host Process for Win32 Servi
« Reply #5 on: October 17, 2006, 10:04:56 PM »
You have a few bugs on your C:\drive
Also, you must watch out where and what codecs you are installing, some can carry infections
Scan them ahead of time with an updated AV

Let's fix some entries on your log, we're just disabling them from running on startup
and help trouble shoot your problem

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] D:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "D:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StormCodec_Helper] "D:\Program Files\Ringz Studio\Storm Codec\StormSet.exe" /S /opti
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "D:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] D:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\UPDATE~1\ISUSPM.exe -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "D:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll",Load

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows

Find and delete these files
G:\software\StormCodec5.07.rar <-file
G:\software\StormCodec5.07.exe <-file
D:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll <-file

C:\install.exe <-file

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Internet explorer or OE
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window

Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
[/list]* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type:
cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
Come back here and post a fresh Hijackthis log
What do you have on your G:\ Drive?

Svchost.exe Application Error and Generic Host Process for Win32 Servi
« Reply #7 on: October 21, 2006, 10:19:48 AM »
It looks good, I don't know if your still have problems with it however

You should supply a Hijackthis log from the operating system on the C:\drive
We may need to clean it up a bit
You may not use it that much, but XP still has access to that drive

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?
