hp computer going wierd

Hi there,  I have a HP desktop running XP withSP2. I was hooked up to watch a hockey web cast and about 2 1/2 hours of watching, the computer bumped and shutdown.  I Thought Weird. The computer restarted and said files were lost but could be fix with recovery console chkdsk /r. So I did the chkdsk /r thing with the disk.  After reinstalling software and updates the next day computer seem to work OK but not 100%.  Game night #2 and the computer shuts down again pretty much the same massage.  This time 2.75 hours of web cast.  The wierd thing is I had a second computer running also and it crashed about 4 - 5 mins apart.  Have not done anything with the other computer but my hp is running after the chkdsk /r thing again. It is slow, and is making weird sounds like instant messenger or windows popup blocked. but no indication of blocked site and not hooked up to IM.

I don't see nothing strange in the log
Can I ask, I see an Epson printer on your computer
Do you also have or had an HP printer installed?
If so, can you give me the make and model please, just checking on something

Also, would it be possible to supply a Hijackthis log from your other computer
See if anything is out of the ordinary or similiar

Hi there.
I have never had and HP printer hook to this computer.  My Epson is a Stylus Photo 785EPX.

My other computer  is a Gateway 475 w/XP & SP2
I can not get it up a running. There is an error Screen...

It said's that I can fix it but the windows xp disk wont start up.  The drive spins up but the computer keeps going to the black screen with the error message.
Can this file be put on another way?
I have a burner on the HP computer.

On the gateway computer, can you try the following
press the F8 key as the system is starting, right after the single post beep

Select
"Boot Using Last Known Good Configuration".
Does that help?
Do you have the XP cd that came with the computer?

On the other computer
Do you have an HP scanner or fax machine installed?
Anything HP related?

Hello,
I did F8 and tried "boot last known Good Configuration" no luck also tried all the other choices with no luck still just goes back to the Error message. I can get to the setup screen so I checked to make sure the cd drive was first  it is.  The computer had Windows 98 Second edition from the factory.  I upgraded to XP.  The disk is the same disk that was use to install XP on the computer.  

The HP computer has a HP LCD Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse, nothing else.  Well except for the printer (Epson).
