upgrading computer?

hi peeps.. well i'm wondering about upgrading my computer, (i'm not a computer person) and i'm just using the computer fer regular normal stuff, but right now i have a 120gb harddrive, and i want a bigger harddrive space (like 200gb or something), because i am an excessive downloader (dl things  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> ) but i'm also wondering if there is something i can upgrade a comp part cuz my comp is sometimes slow if i have a lot of programs running. (i think it's called ram?) but yeah, if i do get a new harddrive, i'm not sure if i'm going to have space inside my comp to fit the 2nd hd, but i just need it to install as a main hd, then use my 120gb fer my ps2 heh. but yeah, can i use it on one of my cd/dvd plugs? ..but yeah so just wondering i should do, (sorry if this topic is confusing, i got lost while typing but yeah) i'll reply back after i get focused...ok thanks http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

oh btw how do u find the computer specs? or comp brand (my comp is a hp pavilion, but don't know what version)

You can probably do all the above
Remember, your operating system is on the smaller drive
I think this is what your wanting to do

Disconnect the second harddrive
The new harddrive may be faster, so you will want to format and install the operating system to that, if that's what your after
reconnect old drive temporarily as slave to the new one once you have the operating system and drivers installed to new drive
You should see the old drive thru MyComputer and access any files or folders you want to save and copy>>paste them to the new drive
Format the second drive then connect it to the secondary chain as master
Put the cd to slave

Or, if the 2 harddrives are the same speed
You can leave them both on the same Primary chain
Don't do nothing with the old drive, leave operating system installed and just partition your new drive

How much RAM do you have installed and what OS are you running?

i'm sorry what? i only have one harddrive in my computer, and i want to upgrade it to 200gb, but actually is it ok if i can get back to this thread later, cuz i still have to buy a harddrive lol, and i'll also take a pic of what's inside my computer heh. sry, i was just wondering about doing it? and fer ram and os? i'm not sure where to find it, but i am using windows xp sp 2? thanks though http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

A picture might not help very much... I would get something like CPU-Z to find out the specs of the computer, though if its an hp is should say on the side (or the front panel arounf the sticker that tells what processor it has)
If you want to upgrade hard-drive space from 120-200GB I'd just get a second hd, not buy a new one all together (not sure if thats what you were planning).

oh no, i want to get a new harddrive and use my old one fer my ps2, but yeah, i don't know if i have a 2nd harddrive rack thingy to insert it and copy, or could i just use the cd/dvd drives to install my harddrive...confusin yeah, but i still need to buy one (a new harddrive) heheh

For the sake of arguement
Let's say that you own all these PS2 games and you just want to back them up on your computer
Or burn to dvd for yourself
Because I'm sure your not going to tell us your trying to burn the games and share them with friends
DON'T tell us that!

My guess is, there would definitely be room inside the computer for another harddrive
You will have to open it and see
Or check specifications online if you can find the info

I would still do the following, and Allanon has mentioned this too
You don't need to reinstall everything
Add the other drive
Partition and format use what you need for backup of PS2 and leave the remainder for XP

OR, you will want to use my first method, this is up to you
Also, your decision to leave both on same chain or use different

I recommend purchasing 512MB+ of RAM, that could help with your problem of your computer being slow. As for the other problem I'm stumped :|
