Anyone know where to get the OPK CD and/or the Guide to Unattended Setup (lists all the possible answer file parameters) for Windows XP?  Are they really selling it instead of giving it away for this version? ...or is it available for downlaod somewhere?  I can\'t find it anywhere.

Is the answer file still supposed to be called winnt.sif?

....disliking XP more and more each day.....

MS knowledgebase Q314459

From the readme.txt:

An OPK CD is contained in every
multi-pack of Windows distributed by an OEM distributer to original
computer manufacturers, assemblers, reassemblers, and/or software
preinstallers of computer hardware a Microsoft Distribution and
Preinstallation Agreement which is a “Break-the-Seal” license
agreement.

Could not find any unattend.doc though

Do you need a CD Key to install the OEM version?

This last post is an accurate answer to this scenario:

With Windows XP, only OEM multi-packs (\"Bulk Packs\") contain the OEM Preinstallation Toolkit.  In XP, this includes the elusive \"Windows PE\" bootable CD, which brings a CD-based operating system up on a box in order to proceed with unattended installation procedures, etc. ( WinPE is strictly for OEMs and System Builders, so don\'t bother trying to find it if you are an everyday Joe User....)

*** As a side note, do NOT attempt to use XP\'s WinPE with a Win2K rollout, you will #@&%!@ DESTROY it if you try!!! ***

With both Windows XP and Win2K, the SUPPORT folder houses the necessary files to do unattended installations, andyone can do this; it\'s not limited to OEMs or System Builders.  A quick search on Microsoft\'s TechNet website should give you scores of samples and documentation on deploying these O/S\'s via unattended installations.

Cheers!

I will probably never read this thread of post again, but if you know someone that is an oem distributor you can get said disk.

I have it and for reference the size of the disk is:

Win XP OEM Preinstallation Kit - 344 MB (361,207,808 bytes)

WinPE IS available w/o being either an OEM or a system builder.  It can be optained if your company is a Soluion Provider or through Microsoft Consulting Services engagement.  You even request license information online at:

http://www.microsoft.com/LICENSING/programs/sa/samembers.asp

or by sending mail to:  [email protected]

WinPE is indispensable when building Windows XP images.
