Trojan.Downloader
« on: November 09, 2006, 05:18:49 AM »
Hi!

Yesterday my Norton Anti-Virus told me that my pc had been infected by Trojan.Downloader.
N.A.V couldn't either fix the file or delete it.
So I tried to take action by myself and followed the removal instructions by Norton:
1. Disabled system restore
2. Updated the virus definitions (using Intelligent Updater)
3. Restarting the PC in safe-mode
4. Scanning for and deleting the infected file
5. Editing the registry.

Everything up till number 4 went well  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
But N.A.V didn't find anything when scanning in safe-mode.
Therefore I didn't delete anything or fix number 5....

But my PC seems slower and hangs a bit. I've had trouble with trojans earlier and that
was the same symptoms.

Here's my HJT file:

It would be great if someone could take a look at this and guide me through some cleaning.
Perhaps the pc has some issues about to much starting up at the same time? Could something be disabled at start-up?
My PC also goes into blue-screen everytime I try to use Lavasoft Ad-aware...

Thank you!

Best regard's

Download this file - Combofix.exe and save it too desktop
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Post the log from combofix please

Also, RIGHT CLICK on hijackthis.exe
Rename it too Gaute.exe
Run a fresh scan and save logfile with Gaute.exe (Hijackthis) and post the fresh log please

+There are many malware(files) that may be pegged as Trojan.Downloader
Can you let me know what infected files your talking about please
Give me a link to Norton's so I know what steps you have tried

Let's try the following to ensure we get your system clean

Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune.
Save it to your desktop, we'll need it later

Download>>Install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from Ewido networks
 • Load AVG-antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
 • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
 • Close AVG antispyware as we will need it later
Print the rest of these instructions or save them too a text file on desktop

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XeroxRegistation] "C:\DOCUME~1\Bruker\LOKALE~1\Temp\Xerox\EReg\opbreg.exe" /Startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LemmingsRevolutionSetup.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\Bruker\SKRIVE~1\LEMMIN~1.EXE /r

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the top of the screen that appears.
Sign in with your normal user account

In safe mode, do the following

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

 ====================================================
Remain in safe mode

AVG-Antispyware Scan
 • Load AVG and select the "Scanner" tab
 • Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and ensure that  Automatically generate report after every scan is selected
 • Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
 • Let this scan complete
 • AVG will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.

 • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As".  This will create a text file.  Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Go to START>>RUN>>type in msconfig
Under the General tab, ensure NORMAL startup is selected
Apply it and Close

Allow the computer to Reboot to Normal windows
Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab
Uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")

Can I see the following please

1. Post a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the whole report from Avg Antispyware

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Sorry for the delay
Can you do the following

Your version of Sun Java is out of date and should be updated for security reasons
==Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
 • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
 • Click the "Download" button to the right.
 • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
 • The page will refresh.
 • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation Multi-language
Save the file to your Desktop.
Don't install it yet

Open your Windows Control panel
Double click to open the Java icon
Under the General tab click the "Delete Files" button
Leave all 3 selections checked and hit OK

Access your Add/remove programs via Control Panel
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE or Java 2 Runtime Environment.... )
They should have the following icon next to it:
Select it and click Remove on all of them

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
Go ahead and install the latest version of Java
You can delete the installer afterwards

Yes, if everything is running better
Go ahead and delete Combofix.exe and the report it saved>>C:\Combofix.txt

Manually delete ATF-Cleaner
I didn't realize you had CleanUp!, I use it also

Optionally, hold onto AVG-Antispyware or you can uninstall it, that's up to you
The full trial version, becomes a limited free version after 30 days
After the 30 days, it will still update and remove malware if found

I hope that helps
