My fiance is having issues with his computer. He has a SATA drive in it, windows is installed. Everytime we boot it up, it goes to a black dos-like screen and gives us the prompts to either start in safe mode, normally, etc. No matter what we choose...it goes to the loading screen and reboots itself. Then he rebooted it a minute ago, and when it went through the windows loading screen it gave him a blue screen which we didn't have time to read as it quickly rebooted itself. Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Also, it won't even let us re-install windows or repair it.

As the system is rebooting, before Windows loads
Can you tap the F8 key
You should be in the Windows Advanced Options Menu
There may be an option to Disable Automatic restart
Select it and try restarting again Normally

If you get another error message, see if you can write down the whole message and post it back here

Did you put the CD in the drive
Then go into the bios and switch the booting order to CD first?
You may have to reboot the computer twice after saving the change in the bios

I'll try hitting the F8 key....but as for going into the bios and setting it to boot from cd...already tried that like 5 times today. I'll try the F8 key and tell you what happens.

Hitting F8 does nothing.

EDIT: Ok I got it to get into the advanced menu.

Can you shut down>>disconnect all periphials you don't need hooked to the computer
Only leave the keyboard, monitor, mouse hooked
Try starting

EDIT>>I didn't see your edit
Choose to Disable Automatic restart>>Also choose Last know good configuration

Is the harddrive detected in the bios?

It's running excrutiatingly slow. There's a 1gb stick of ram in there, and I think it's only reading it at 256.

Does that mean you got into Windows?

Not that it is malware related, but can you do the following for me
Download Hijackthis from my signature below
SAVE it to your desktop

Double click on hijackthis_sfx.exe on desktop
Click the UNZIP button>>OK the prompt
This will self extract to C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Delete hijackthis_sfx.exe from desktop

Go to START>>RUN
Copy>>paste the following to the open field, then hit OK
%systemdrive%\Program Files\HijackThis
This will open the Hijackthis folder
RIGHT CLICK on Hijackthis.exe and select SEND TO>>Desktop (create shortcut)
You can now run Hijackthis.exe from the new shortcut placed on your desktop

Double click to run Hijackthis.exe
Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log here

Can you also Right click on MYComputer icon
Left click Properties
Give me system specs please

Can you tap F8 key and select SAFE MODE
Can you also make sure you shut down >>disconnect all periphials not needed connected to the machine

Did you Disable Auto Restart on system failure, if that option was available?

eah I disabled it....then it gave me the option to reboot with last known config...then ran slower than molasses and froze.

Did you disconnect periphials?
Did you try Safe mode?

Ok. I went and hit F8, disabled the auto reboot again, then selected boot into safe mode, and it rebooted and I have a blank screen. The only thing in there is a HD, a cd rom the mobo, CPU and a graphics card. The cd rom IS detatched.

I take that back...the screen isn't just blue....it's something about windows had an error and all that jazz. the typical blue screen of doom.

How many sticks of Memory do you have in the machine?
Did you just add some?
Make sure the contacts on the memory are clean

Try removing the memory and just stick in one stick at a time
If it won't boot with just one stick in it, remove that one and try another one

There's only one in there. heh. It's a 1gb stick...
