For guestolo - Slow Computer Topic as promised

Hey Guestolo,

Here I am again, with a computer that is running very slow. It is also having a hard time locating "My Computer" when I click on it it brings up that flashlight and searches for about 30 seconds before it comes up. AVG Virus found a trojan virus a month or so ago and cleaned it up.

and also a few questions (now that I look at the list) what is Windows Hotfix? and VNC 3.3.7? I have not heard of these before.

Hotfixes are related to Windows updates, there ok

VNC 3.3.7 is a Virtual network client, legit, but if you don't want it installed you can remove it from add/remove

What virus did you remove a month ago?

Can you do the following
Download this file - Combofix.exe and save it too desktop
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the log please
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

The virus that AVG removed was Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic3.NHL
This virus was removed twice, once on 10/15/06 and again on 10/23/06 and every test after that has produced clean results.

I know it sounds like the wrong way around it, but you are controlling entries on startup with msconfig
Although, not always a bad thing, in this case you are just trying to disable the bad guys and not ridding yourself of them

Can you do the following
Go to START>>RUN>>Type the following into the run command window
msconfig
Hit OK
Under the STARTUP tab>>Enable ALL>>Apply it
Under the SERVICES tab>>Enable ALL>>Apply it
Under the General tab>>Select NORMAL startup>>apply it and click CLOSE

Restart the computer at the prompt

Post a fresh hijackthis log and we will go from there

==Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10

• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".

• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation Multi-language
  

Save the file to your Desktop.
Don't install it yet

Leave all 3 selections checked and click "OK"
Exit Java

Access your Add/remove programs via Control Panel
Remove the following

We're going to update this in a bit

REBOOT the computer

Back in Windows, leave everything enabled on startup
Go ahead and install the latest version of Java from the installer on desktop
After it is installed, you can delete the installer

Download>>Install [color=\"#000099\"]AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5[/color] from Ewido networks

• Load AVG-antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  
• After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Close it out, we will need it later

Download the latest version of  [color=\"red\"]SmitfraudFix[/color][/url] (by S!Ri)
Extract the contents (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

• Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
• Click the "Delete..." button under Browsing History
• Clean the following>>"Temporary Internet Files>>Cookies>>History"

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

• Go to Tools > Options.
• Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
• Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
• Click OK to close the Options window

Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

• Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
  
• Press any key to continue
• Select option #3 to Delete Trusted Zones by typing 3 and press "Enter"
  
• You will be prompted : "Restore Trusted Zone ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter"
  
• Press any key to continue
• Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
  
  
• You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
  
  
• The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
  

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process.  A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process

If a reboot was not required, REMAIN in safe mode

Load AVG-Antispyware

• Click the "Settings" tab, Under "How to Act", click on "recommended action" and change to Quarantine and ensure that  Automatically generate report after every scan is selected
  
• Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
  
• Let this scan complete, let it run uninterrupted
• AVG will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  
  
• Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As".  This will create a text file.  Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).

Reboot back to Normal windows

Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab
Uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")
Reset your background picture under the "Desktop" tab

Open SpywareBlaster 3.5.1
While you have it open, Check for updates
If there were no updates, or even if there were
Do the following
click on the "Protection" button
Select "Enable all protection"

This is the second time I seen an update of AVG and haven't seen the Email scanner running

Can you do the following please
Can you redownload AVG free edition from this link

Save the installer to desktop, but DON'T install it yet

Go to START>>RUN>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the new window, on the right hand side, look for this service name

AVG7 Alert Manager Server
Double click on it and STOP the service from running
Apply it
Do the same for this service name
AVG7 Update Service

If you see a service name for AVG Email Scanner, stop it also if running
Exit out of there

Double click on the Comodo Firewall icon by the clock
Open the APPLICATION MONITOR
Left click to Select
Then Right Click and REMOVE any entry related to AVG

Access your Add/remove programs and remove your present version of AVG 7
Allow to Remove user settings and empty vault at the prompt

REBOOT the computer

Back in Windows
Go ahead and reinstall AVG from the installer you saved
Use the Recommended installation method, not Custom
IF, at any time you are prompted by COMODO to Allow access for AVG

Put a check in "Remember my answer for this application"
Then select ALLOW

Come back here and post one more hijackthis log please
