Questolo
« on: December 09, 2006, 09:51:15 PM »
Questolo, you helped me a year ago and I'm back.  Desktop crashes about every 24 hours, computer just stops running, it takes 3 to 6 times restating computer before it will come back up.  I asked for help about a month ago and didn't hear from you.  I think it's because I've got a new address.  It's [email protected]  so would you please write me back here and/or change my address.  I don't know how to do that.  Thanks and I've attached a fresh hijack this log.

Stormie

Hi again StormieK
Can you try the following please
Print these instructions or copy>>Paste them too a text file so you can follow along in the case that internet connection needs
established

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop
We'll need it in a bit

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{02813B7E-D906-4E64-A0BD-813269A5FA26}: NameServer = 85.255.113.90,85.255.112.165
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B81A9DF4-055E-4900-A737-2487E4997FBF}: NameServer = 85.255.113.90,85.255.112.165
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{BAE58B05-BE46-4724-A312-DC7E9C6F08DE}: NameServer = 85.255.113.90,85.255.112.165
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.90 85.255.112.165
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{02813B7E-D906-4E64-A0BD-813269A5FA26}: NameServer = 85.255.113.90,85.255.112.165
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.90 85.255.112.165

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Double click on FixWareout.exe
Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.

The fix will begin; follow the prompts.  You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.  Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

NOTE: IF, and only if you have problems with Internet connection after doing the above
Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.  Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties.  Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.  Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O1 - Hosts: 64.237.37.47 auto.search.msn.com

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

If your still running the free version of Ewido Antimalware
Can you access your add/remove programs and remove it please
We'll update this in a bit

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows
With all Browser windows closed
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
 • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
 • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
 • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
 • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
 • Go to Tools > Options.
 • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
 • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
 • Click OK to close the Options window

Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
 • Go to start > run and type:
cleanmgr and click ok.
 • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
 • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
 • Press OK to remove them.

Download>>Install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from Ewido networks
 • Load AVG-antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
 • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Select the "Scanner" tab
 • Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and ensure that  Automatically generate report after every scan is selected
 • Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
 • Let this scan complete, let it run uninterrupted
 • AVG will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.

 • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As".  This will create a text file.  Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
 • An AVG icon will be placed in your system tray next to your clock, can you right on it and uncheck

"Resident Shield" , "Automatic updates" and "Start with Windows"
Reboot the computer

Come back here and post one more hijackthis log and the report from AVG antispyware please
Let me know how things are running

::Report end

I think you asked me if my computer was running better.  It seems to be somewhat, maybe a bit faster.  I know that for along time I had to turn it off 3 to 6 times before it would come back up and now I can click restart and it does without a hitch!  What do you think?  I see some 'things' that have (missing files) and wonder what that means.  Do you know?  I'm grateful you're helping me:)

I see that you have/had Norton's installed, There is still an entry related to it's security suite on your system
You now appear to be totally using McAfee's
If that correct

You may want to do the following
Go to START>>RUN>>type services.msc
Hit OK

New window, right hand side, scroll down to this service name
SymWMI Service

STOP the service if running, in the dropdown startup type bar, choose DISABLED

Apply and ok out of there
If there's an entry in add/remove for Symantec Security Center, you may want to remove it

The file missing are misinterpertations by Hijackthis
Not to worry
One mention however, the ones related to BitDefender
If you don't use the Online scanner
In IE click on TOOLS>>Remove Bit Defender (something like that)

Do you have Ad-Aware installed?
I would run updated Spyware scans with both Spybot 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Personal 1.06
Remember to reboot after running them

Do you have SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 installed?
Or you still using 3.4?
You can look in add/remove for file version or open SpywareBlaster
I suggest that you update it in certain steps, post back and let me know what version is installed please

Ok...before I go on, just so you know, there are words through these messages that are underlined like before and when I hover over them a box opens and says 'where I can go to find whatever that word is'.  What in the world is that???

Ok, to answer you:)

I'm using McAfee now and not Norton.  I did as you instructed but there was no Symantic Security Center in my Add/Remove.

There was no Disable for the Startup Type Bar.  Just Automatic and Manual.  I stopped it though.

I have Ad-Aware and run it every day.

I still have Spyware Blaster from when you helped me last year at this time and it's the 3.5.1 version.  I use it about 5 times a week.

This computer is still running like mad....for about 30 minutes now without stopping!

Oh, I need to get rid of BitDefender.  I haven't used that since you helped me last year.  I'll go do that.  A window poped up and said it isn't there when I clicked on the name.

I think this is all you asked for...

Thanks,  Stormie

Reboot the computer
I need to see a fresh hijackthis log

With the fresh log
Can I also see the following
Download and save too your root directory
In your case, This will be the C:\ directory
 F-Secure Blacklight(blbeta.exe)
So you will now have C:\blbeta.exe
* Open a command window. (Start>Run and type: cmd)
* Copy paste or type the following in the command window:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

    * Accept the user agreement.
    * Click Scan.
    * After the scan finishes, click on Next, then Exit.
Do not rename any files if found by blacklight, I need to see the log

BlackLight will create a log with the name "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log".
Can you post back here the contents of C:\"fsbl-xxxxxxx.log".
