Slow Performance

I installed 2.8 of America's Army, and it's very laggy compared to 2.6. I didn't have any problems before, and I tried reducing the video settings to the lowest possible, but to no avail.

I do have a ton of porcesses running, about 50 or so.

Why are there no Windows Updates on this computer?
Is this a legal version of XP?

Can I see a different log from Hijackthis
supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

There could very well be compatability issues with some of your software and the lack of Windows updates
Also, your system is FAR LESS secure without them
Do you have a Firewall enabled on this machine?

Did you intentionally install this program?

Can you access your add/remove programs and remove the following
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
Viewpoint Media Player
ewido security suite <-we'll update this in a bit along with your older versions of Java

Don't reboot the computer yet, instead

Please disable SpybotSD TeaTimer, as it may hinder the removal of entries in your log
Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box.
Click Allow Change box if prompted
Close Spybot

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer again

Back in Windows
Go to the following link
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Download the Windows OFFLINE installation to the latest version of Java
Save to desktop
Double click to install, follow the prompts
After installation you can delete the installer from your desktop

==Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
  • Save the installer to desktop
  • Double click the installer, select your language, and then select "OK"
  • Click NEXT>>>Select I Agree>>>NEXT>>>INSTALL
       
  • AVG will now install and afterwards click FINISH
       
  • AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 should now Load
  • Click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
       
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner tab at the top
       
  • Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action under "How to Act" to Quarantine and ensure that Automatically generate report after every scan is selected and
    "Only if Threats are found" is UNChecked
     
  • Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
    This scan can take a while to run, let it run uninterrupted
     
  • When the scan is complete it will list any infections found on the left hand side.
  • Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
     
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file  (like on the Desktop).
     
  • An AVG antispyware icon will be placed in your system tray next to your clock, you can right on it and uncheck

"Resident Shield" , "Automatic updates" and "Start with Windows"
[/list]Reboot the computer one more time
Come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log and the Whole report from AVG please

Firewall is enabled.
The slideshow program is intentional, because manually changing your background is boring.
However this didn't cause the lag, I've had it for around almost two years, and it's never caused problems

Looks good, how's everything running?
 to help with resources
You can leave AVG--Antispyware installed
But disable the Guard
Go to START>>RUN>>type in services.msc
Hit OK

In the right hand side, look for this service name
AVG Anti-Spyware Guard
Double click on it
In the STARTUP type, set to Disabled
Then click the STOP button to stop the service
APPLY it and OK out of there

You have other entries you may not need running on startup
Do you want to try disabling some to help save resources and speed startup time?

I haven't had a chance to play AA yet, but I'll jump in to see how if fairs now.
