Themes in Windows 2000?
« on: June 06, 2002, 05:26:20 PM »
Is there a way to use themes in Windows 2000? I just hate the dull look of \"Windows\" and would like to greatly change it.

I love the OS and would never use anything else. I just want to spruce it up a tad http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Themes are not installed by default in Windows 2000 but that doesn\'t mean you can\'t use them.  Here\'s the secret.  In Windows 98/ME you configure your themes through the Themes applet in the Control Panel.  You are probably familiar with this.  In Windows 2000, you configure your themes by going to Start|Run and typing in \"themes\" without the quotes.  This will bring up the familiar looking screen you are used to seeing.  You will probably notice there are no themese to select.  As is I said before, there are no themes installed by default in 2K.  You will need to copy the desired theme files from your 98/ME box.  Search for the files named \"*.theme\" on your 98/ME and copy these files to your 2K box.  If you put them in the \"Winntsystem32\" directory they will show up in the drop down list.  Hope I answered your question.  Good luck.
