Hi,
Recently I used an online antivirus scan (P**da) and it detected a virus in my pc called polyboot. Without prompting me, it proceeded to remove the virus. Now, it seems that removing the virus screwed up my windows. When i boot, it shows some spanish message which i roughly make out as it saying that my boot sector arrangement is invalid.
After that I tried using my windows xp CD to boot and check what options i have from the CD. I didn't do anything, and quit the setup. Surprisingly after that my windows loading screen came on. But unfortunately it gets stuck at the welcome screen. No startup music, nothing. My mouse works, as i can still move the cursor, but it just gets stuck at the welcome screen.
I tried browsing tech forums to see what i can do, and learnt about the recovery console in the XP CD. I tried using that, using the commands "FIXBOOT" and "FIXMBR". But it seems like it has no effect.
I also tried using "CHKDSK", and the results came out saying it found 1 or more errors. So I did a "CHKDSK /R" but after that windows is still stuck at the welcome screen.
So... now i'm stumped. I don't know what to do. I'm trying hard not to have to format my HD and reinstall, as it's an old PC and I don't think i have all my drivers anymore. I don't even remember what motherboard or graphics card i'm using.
Please help :'(
