computer freezes, often afterviewing video

My computer freezes so that I can't do the control/alt/delete to free it up.  Often this occurs while viewing video.  Any suggestions?

Shut down any unnecessary programs running in the background, if any
Ensure your computer is clear of spyware/viruses

Make sure you have enough memory to run
