system will not read cd rom, used boot disk to start and tried to access the cd drive, ERROR not ready reading drive d.
This is when I used the 98 cd. Have reinstalled drivers, changed data cables, changed cd roms, ANY ideas???

Did you rececntly uninstall some cdwriting software, eg Nero or Roxio? If so, you will need to do some registry editing and remove the \"LowerFilter\"key under cdrom.

Thanks for the answer, no cd writeing software installed or ever for that matter. Upgraded from the network to XP and still have the same problem.
