Serial Port Insanity, please help
« on: July 22, 2002, 08:51:04 PM »
Hey everyone. I\'m trying to get a direct serial connection going between 2 Win98 machines. It will work perfectly with my parallel port but I\'ve tried everything I can think of for the serial ports and just cannont get them communicating. I have a serial null modem cable, have installed everything I need, (I think) have set up the com ports in the bios and in windows to be the same on each machine, have tried different speeds, flow control, etc etc. If anybody has any other ideas for me to try please let me know. Thanx.

I did this once with no problem, as I did not have the parallel cable with me. Please tell me, why on earth do you wish to connect using direct serial?

Well, I built  a couple of older machines from cheap spare parts I had acquired and I wanted to link them together so my wife and I could play Jedi Knight haha. I\'ve since given up on the serial port and picked up a couple of network cards to do this.
