annoyed. someone help.

on a different computer, that is very old, im trying to install XP SP2 and i keep getting the error "c:.../ndis.sys is open or in use by another application..please close all aplications and retry" whenn all other applications are closed..

its very annoying. please help.

This computer is very infected, you sure you just don't want to reininstall(clean install)  and start fresh?
I usually don't try and be so frank, but at this point I see no Windows updates and a bad infection than can jeopardize legit files

If you want to try and clean it let me know, but if you don't have much to save on it, it may be best to start from scratch

You MUST ensure you keep a firewall and AV installed and active!!!!!

i ran AVG antivirus before you replied and it delted winlogon,exe. I dont think there is any saving this computer because
i dont have the windows cd seems how its like 7 years old and then handed down to someone else, asnd then to someone else, and then to me.


i was thinking of installing linux, because i have no windows cd. if you want to help me with that i would appreciate it because i dont know how.

nm, i found an old windows 2000 cd, which will run better on this computer anyways.

I just did the same thing a month ago, Installed 2000 on an old comp I have kicking around
P.S. I installed Sygate firewall, easy to use firewall
You can still find it at oldversion.com
