Unable to download Flashplayer
« on: March 30, 2007, 04:49:45 PM »
A few months ago my hard drive crashed and I had to have my WindowsXP reinstalled and set back to factory settings.  A couple weeks ago I noticed I could not view videos from the internet.  I'm not sure if this was a problem after my hard drive was reinstalled or if the problem occurred after that.  I have virus and spyware protection on all the time and manually check for problems on a regular basis.  When I tried to view a video I was told I needed to install Flashplayer to view the content.  I went to the Adobe website and pressed the Download Now button.  I didn't get the bar near the menu allowing me to download the file.  No box appeared saying Run or Save.  A message came on the screen saying the program installed successfully.  NOPE.  They were wrong.  I've tried downloading from different sites with no luck.  I've checked my security settings according to Adobe, no luck.  Apparently I had some type of player at one point because part of the solution from Adobe was to run an uninstall and then try the download.  I ran the uninstall, tried the download again, same thing happened.  But now, I view even less parts of web sites than before.  I get a lot of blank white boxes with little symbols in the top left corner.  HELP!!

What AV and spyware protection programs do you have installed?
Some disable flash, check within the programs first

I run Spy Sweeper and Zone Alarm Security Suite.  I went into both programs and could find nothing on flash.

Is this only happening with Internet Explorer?
What version of IE are you running?

When you visit the following site, does it say Flash is installed?
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
You may have the addon disabled

Can you try closing IE then temporarily disabling ZoneAlarm
Reopen IE>>Try a site for flash content

Can you try it in Firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

After installation of firefox
Install it's version of Flash player from here
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/do...=ShockwaveFlash

See if you can get sites to work that contain flash content

I'm running IE7.  I went to the flash/about site and the page doesn't load completely. Pretty much a blank page.  I closed IE and shut down zone alarm and spy sweeper, reopened IE and same thing happens.  I cannot view any video.  Pages just seem to hang without downloading the complete page.  I then installed Firefox and went to Adobe site to download shockwave.  The download box appears and I press download and save to desktop.  That's as far as I get.  Everything justs hangs and no progress is made.

I was mistaken...sometimes the download box on both browsers does show progress but at 12.9kb/sec.  At that rate I'll never download the files.  I've had no other problems downloading in the meantime....e.g. Firefox.  I download that quickly and without any problems.

I was going to try and upload the flashinstaller and see if you can download it
But the forum seems to be having problems at the moment with zip files
I can upload them, but no one can download them, they come up empty

Let me try anyways

Not working for me, unfortuneately, I'm away on vacation, can only get to wifi spots when I get a chance
I could try and email you the installer if you PM me your address that allows zip files

I was able to download your attachment.  I installed flash player and restarted my pc. Maybe all this time it's been something else wrong---I don't know and I'm at my wits end.  I went to cbs.com to try and watch csi from last thursday.  The screen states I need the latest version of flashplayer.  This was after I installed the one you attached to your post.  I press the download now option and it takes me to the adobe website.  When I try to download the program it does nothing.  How can I successfully download other programs from the internet and not that one?

Can you try the following
Download and save to desktop FlashRepair.exe
Close down all browser windows
Double click on FlashRepair.exe, follow the prompts
See if it's any help

i ran the flashrepair, restarted the pc, and tried to view a video....no luck.  i was going to just give up at that point.  after work today i came home and was messing around on the pc.  i decided to try and watch csi on cbs.com and what do you know...i was able to download flashplayer through cbs.com and i am now able to view my missed episodes.  i don't know why it didn't work right away.   thank you very much for all your invaluable help.   http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Sorry for the delay, glad it helped, I actually fiddled with my computer to get the same alert you were getting at cbs.com about no flash installed, by unregistering an .ocx file related

Tried flashrepair.exe to reregister and it did the trick, so I assume that is what you needed also
