Computer won't turn on
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:46:09 PM »
Last night, I was online and my computer crashed (blue screen of death).  Now when I try and turn it on, it gets up to the boot screen then just shuts off.  It is running Vista Home Premium, any ideas how to get my stuff back? =\

Well... That happened

Thanks for the update JBLee / Jason
Good to keep in mind

This is a troubleshooting step recommended by Microsoft from the link I provided

Determine if the problem is hardware-related
Memory. Memory errors might be caused by faulty random access memory (RAM). To scan your computer's memory for errors, see How do I know if my computer has a memory problem?

Vista is going to be a learning curve, that is for sure

Thanks guestolo, if you are interested it ended up being a RAM problem, one of my sticks had died and it saved a bunch of bad info to the hardrive.  I actually got a really good tech guy (he actually knew what he was talking about).

Well... That happened

I didn't take the statement out of context http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

I'm glad you got great help
It's better than getting a person that tells you to reformat all the time
I supplied those links as troubleshooting steps, as it happened, Ram was your problem
And for future reference for myself also, I posted those links

One question: Did he have you run the Vista Memory test?
