How to disable the PCMCIA insert/remove sound
« on: August 14, 2002, 04:42:08 PM »
Hi,

How do I disable the sound when inserting/removing the PCMCIA card in W2K?  For Win98SE, there is a box to check on \"disable PC card sound\".

Thanks!

You would goto Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Device Manager->Sound, video and game controllers->right click your card and choose Uninstall...  My card is named Creative SB Live! series(WDM) so I could right click that and hit Uninstall...

Or you could just disable it.

Or you could disable that PCI slot

Or you could use the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard

Or you could after taking it out disable Plug & Play then put it in. To do that you would goto Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services->then right click on Plug and Play and choose properties and disable it. It\'s enabled by default.

I know in XP you can goto services and actuall choose to disable Windows Media Audio and that will do I think exactly what you want. In 2k i really dont know how to do that for i have never needed too.

don\'t know if that is what you mean or not

Go to C:Winntmedia and find the sound in there, and then delete.
