Yearly Checkup

Hi questolo,
things are running pretty smooth but it's been a year since I checked in and I need new virus, firewall, and whatever else to keep healthy plus I'm sure I'm bogged with way more crap than I need to riun efficiently. Could you kindly give me a check up and recommend safeguards for this year? I'm fine to stay with McAfee and Kiero and I'm fine with trying something new as well. Hope to keep it fairly inexpensive.

I take it your running the free version of Sunbelt kerio, it's still a good firewall

yes McAfee is expired, I would kind of like to try something different but don't know anything about what's out there. Any suggestions?
I actually bought the full version of Kerio but it too is expired. If the free version is sufficient I'll just stay with it.

DON'T run more than one AV on your computer at a time, more than one can cause conflicts

Why not try Active Virus Shield

Follow these steps if you would like to try it

Go to the link and click on the "Click Here to Download" button
Supply them with a legit Email address>>they will be emailing you an activation code
and then click the Get It Now button
It will prompt to install, but you actually are just saving  the installer to your harddrive

Save the .msi installer to your desktop, but DO NOT install it yet

You need to now remove McAfee from your system
McAfee is sometimes hard to remove

I suggest that you first make a System Restore point
Go to START>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Create a New restore point
Give it a name and click Create, it will prompt when successful
When that's done exit out of there

Remove all of McAfee from your add/remove programs
ensure to reboot afterwards
Be sure it's all removed, if you have trouble removing McAfee, run the tool they have posted at this link

Afterwards, Install  Active Virus Shield from the AVS.msi installer on desktop

NOTE: At the part of the installation to "INSTALL SECURITY TOOLBAR">>>UNTICK this option

When prompt to activate the product, do so immediately, by opening the email they sent you and copy>>paste the activation code to the empty box of the installation window

After installation, reboot only if required, then ensure the program updates, it should automatically

It should prompt to reboot the computer
Do so, on startup it will probably scan your startup objects
and also prompt to run a full scan of your computer, I  would take the time to do one
It will prompt you to do this until you have ran your first initial scan

I have a couple other suggestions for this AV, but do the above and let me know how it goes please

looks good. No problems installing or running. McAfee uninstalled with no problems.
Question for you, when I first installed kerio and for quite a while after it auto started when I booted, for some reason it quit doing that and I have to manually start it whenever I boot, I noticed the AV is also a manual start. I know there must be a way to make them both auto start but I'm having a brain-dead moment and can't seem to find it.

you said you had some other suggestions, I'm interested.
