Address bar........and things NOT working. :(
« on: July 13, 2007, 10:32:31 AM »
Hi pro's! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Im not sure whats happening over here on this end........the computer runs GREAT if its not internet related.   INternet provider says everything is good to go and its still connecting so Im sure its not the internet connection - been fighting with it for a couple of days now.    Internet explorer is dragging more than it ever used too - if you type things into the address bar and hit enter nothing happends - can only open windows if you click on links or if you type things into the search engine.  MSN seems to be signing in and out constantly - and my list of favourites appears to be empty (although if you try and add sites back into there it says you are creating duplicates)  Some times if your navigating around websites it will work fine - and then out of no where you'll have to wait 10 mintutes for the page to open - refreshing doesnt help - only drags it down even more.

Cant find any virus's or spyware or any of that stuff.  I cleaned out the cache and all the temporary internet files........  the advanced settings in the internet options all seem to be fine - inline autocomplete is unchecked (like its supposed to be, right?)

If anyone could give me any suggestions of any kinds I would appreciate it.  Its starting to drive me bonkers!

Here is my hijackthis log:

The only thing I see is if you didn't intentionally install PartyPoker, you can remove it in add/remove programs
This is Optional

Can you reboot your computer into Safe mode with Networking and see if the problems with IE still exist

Can you try a different web browser and see if you still experience problems
I suggest trying Firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Just as a double check
Can you also
Download this file - Combofix.exe and save it ONLY to your desktop
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Post this log please

NOTE: This could also be a problem with NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager
It includes a Firewall
Does your version of Norton Internet Security also have a software based firewall?

Did these problems start right after you installed either Norton's or an update software from Nvidia?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Thanks so much - Turns out Nvidia was the culprit for alot of the problems.  Things are running MUCh better.

Just a few things.........  should be simple hopefully !  I cant for the life of me get the home page to change (tools, internet options)  as many times as I change it and hit reply it just keeps going back to the same thing..

And now internet explorer windows drag a little bit deleyed when your scrolling down.  Are these just settings somewhere that I need to change to fix?

Here is the log you asked for.

Thanks so much for all your help again!  Comp is running amazing compared to what was happening! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Can I see a fresh hijackthis log
Did you uninstall NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager?

You could try Firefox and see if you have hesitation on pages when surfing?
Did you try it?

Try IE with no Add-ons
Close IE>>go to TOOLS>>Programs>>Accessories>>System tools>>IE with no Addons

Quote
I cant for the life of me get the home page to change (tools, internet options) as many times as I change it and hit reply it just keeps going back to the same thing..
Not sure what you mean
Go to your preferred homepage
Then select Tools>>Internet Options>>Use Current
APPLY and OK it

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Let's see what's conflicting
Try this
Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- Forceware Web Interface

Double click on it---
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled
Apply it
Do the same for ForceWare user log service

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eTrust PestPatrol Active Protection] none

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows
Open your Norton Internet Security, click on options at the top, then click Norton Anti-Virus. Look on the left side with the 3 columns. Under the Internet section at the bottom is Home Page protection. uncheck the box at the top.
