Dell Laptop Restore Settings Question!!
« on: July 25, 2007, 04:44:25 PM »
Hello All,

I want to wipe my hard drive on my dell latitude D620 and restore it back to factory settings, but the utility that creates the system disk keeps saying that you need a floppy drive to create the disk.

I don't have a floppy drive, just a CD/DVD combo.  Can someone please tell me what I need to do in order to restore my laptop back to factory settings?

Thanks..

Tiffany

Did you not get a Restore CD from Dell?

Do you have a Recovery partition on your laptop?
Is there a reason you need to wipe the drive and start fresh?
Maybe we can help without the need to clean install

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':o\' /> I have the same problem.....(Dell Inspiron B130)
I already reinstalled windows XP on my laptop. During the installation it said some things could not be installed. After it was all complete the start menu option: Connections, wasn't in the start menu. I called dell and they said something about drivers. I don't know what that means. I have built in wireless. I was just trying to clean it for the upcoming college semester. And the only thing on the new user desktop was the recycle bin.
I'm just trying to regain the essential components of windowsXP and the dell ones. I need step by step beginning to end help. Thanks!
I DO have a restore CD.

Also, I made a new thread about this as well. Just thought I would mention it here. Sorry........... The title of the thread is....

Dell InspironB130 Factory Restore! URGENT HELP (under tech clinic)

Thanks! I'm crying for assistance.

I don't think there is a recovery partition.  I had one one my Compaq, so all I had to do there was a destructive recovery.

I don't know the first place to start looking for a restore CD.. I moved a million times since I first got it.  How can I get another one?

I am giving it away to my family and need to wipe it clean so they won't get nosey in my stuff http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />  LOL

If possible, here are the instructions for creating the Recovery CD
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...&dn=1091713

Not always are the instructions compatible with the system
If you had a CD shipped, I would take a look for it, if you can't find it you may have to contact Dell and have them ship you another, may be a 10 buck charge
I'm not positive on the price however

Take note of what Dell recommends when you do have the CD

Store the CD in a safe and easy to find location.
