Hello,
The administrative setup of office XP extract all the ‘office1.cab’ in the root of the CD to the ‘FILES’ subfolder on the target folder, and delete the office1.cab from the target folder.
The original ‘Pro Plus office XP’ CD is about 448MB~.
Target folder of admin setup size is 630MB~ before SP2 slipstreamed.
Target folder of admin setup size is 680MB~ after SP2 slipstreamed.
I tried to copy the original CD to the target folder as is (not administrative setup) and to slipstream the service pack to but the result was even worst because the office1.cab extracted but not deleted so the target folder got even bigger to 970MB~
I do have a special edition of Office XP came from \'Microsoft Select\' which contain all the installer in one CD: proplus.msi, pro.msi, std.msi, word.msi, ppt.msi, outlook.msi, excel.msi, fp.msi and access.msi. With that single CD I can install the write application in every machine in our organization (not every one have the Pro Plus license). If I slipstream sp2 to that version (rerun the slipstream for every MSI file separately) the target folder is much bigger than 680MB~.
I need to know if there is a way to slipstream sp2 to a target folder without extracting the office1.cab or to rebuild this file after applying the service pack. My idea is to have one CD contain the office XP with service pack 2 slipstreamed and chain setup of MUI with slipstreamed service pack 2 (today I have to 6 setup for each machine OfficeXP+SP1+SP2+MUI+SP1+SP2 to have completely updated machine).
** If I do not slipstream and just burn the service packs and MUI in separate folder on the Office XP CD the space is sufficient.
