I was just wondering how the boot image of the win 2k pro cd was obtained. I like the boot image and for a long time was wondering about how to get it and modify it for my own bootable cds. I have 2 questions: 1. How was the image file odtained? and... 2. Does anyone have any documentation on what can be modified and what the modifications do to the boot.bin file? Thank you.

There\'s a
link
on the win2k bootable cd article on how to extract the boot.bin file yourself. This way you can extract your own in case you have a foreign version, or want to use it on WinXP (the boot part has changed some in XP).
You could always open it in a hex editor and poke around. I haven\'t done so myself, so I don\'t know just what all you can do.

Thanks for the response Josetann. Some how or another I missed that link. I guess I just had too much going on and so I overlooked it. I will keep digging for things that can be modified. If I find out anything interesting I will post it here if it is not already. Thanks again.

What kind of cd are you making bootable? Why not use a standard DOS boot floppy image? You can install Win2k from within DOS (run the i386/winnt file), so you can have multiple OS installs on one CD if that\'s what you\'re aiming for.
