This might come off as biased...probably because it is.
Windows is a good OS, not the best, but which ever is the best and then stays the best? I dont think there really is one.
XP to me...is not Windows. It\'s a contract for a mark or something alike. The activation stuff, honestly, just went alittle to far for me. I can see how they want to protect there software being it\'s the #1 p1rated OS...but still i think they still went alittle to far.
2k pro. I know alot of people...who in return know alot of people, who have gone back to 2k pro from xp pro. Some yes because of the Activation crap, but mainly the majority did for technical reason\'s. All this is unknown to me so if i state something that is not true...sorry. Here is what i dont like about XP. Remember this too, pretty much anything that is good in XP can be added to 2k anyways with upgrades and alike.
Why i dont like XP...and some might be incorrect.
1. The fact it\'s built around protection of everything digital i dont like. Fair Use is pretty much out the window with this OS. It can handle DRM like no other. I just dont see how if i want to change my OS to another hdd to make room for some Digital Video that i should have to tell them. I really dont feel that if i have to make room to put some family video on my computer, clean it up, then give it away for christmas, that M$ should know that. I mean wtf they want??? A christmas card too???
2. The reason that surpass me is how people let some things slide. XP by nature reserve\'s 20% of your bandwidth for some unknown reason. Yes it\'s unknown. Well not really, because anybody who is anybody knows this means it is to spy on you. Send msg\'s back and forth all day. Is it there right to spy on you constantly?? Do they need to know what website\'s you visit\'s, were you do your banking, what movies you watch, what music you listen too, etc...the list goes on and on. Also is anybody sure that someone else cant steal that bandwidth and steal from you?

But wait...you dont even know who is really using that bandwidth anyhow so somebody could be. Other companies could use it aswell. Who is really to say if some other company gave M$ some cash that they wouldnt sell part of the bandwidth out to them??? Think about it, it is sort of like property. Think of that 20% as share\'s of stock. M$ could just sell those share\'s off at 1/8 each and possibly have you listed with 160 companies constantly leeching bandwidth off you. Then companies could take turns hitting you up. This 160 has you one Monday, this other 160 has you on Tuesday, a different 160 has you one wensday...see what i mean??? and who is to say they couldnt break it up into minute\'s like mobile phones...haveing thousands of companies in your machine a day. And all this without you ever knowing it.
3. XP does wacky thing\'s to your hardware. For instance i happen to know someone right now that is really screwed. His machine went down, got a corupt MBR, couple bad sector\'s and some other horrible stuff. Well he cant install XP on it. Everytime he tries it wants to earase files. Only win98 will see it but since it is NTFS he would have to reformat the drive...not good. Also when you run XP it keeps track of all hardware you use. So let\'s say you have a 60gig in your computer, XP does it\'s thing and transmits that info to them or whoever. After awhile you decide to sell that 60gig to someone. That someone install\'s XP on it, at this point you might pass on a burden you dont even know of. What is that burden??? I dont know...could be anything that any company feels like that knows that 60gig once belong to you. The could spam the hell out of the guy you sold it to. Zhit M$ might even contact him asking if that hdd is stolen or if there was pirated software on there. This probably will never happen...but doesnt mean it couldnt...im out on alimb i know.
4. WTF is all this blue zhit all about. Do i need this by default???Is this something that has to be at default?? wtf about these 50meter tall icons??? Will they try to hurt me??? If anything i think the gui is a totally rip off of the KDE...just my opinion but it sure the hell seems like it. I see alittle Mac in it too.
5. Now you got guys like \"MS Bob\" from the crack thread pushing ego. If this OS is so great why dont they just shut the fuc up and bask in the glory...if it\'s so great...why are they so worried?

If anything run 2kpro...that is most likely to be the majorities opinion anyhow.
Now if you think about going to XP PRO...please think about other OS\'s first. There is more and more everyday. You got redhat, mandrake, suse, freebsd, solaris, lindows and many more. Don\'t forget there is other\'s but M$. And if you think about it these are free (not lindows however).
The linux distro\'s can be had for like 30-50usd WITH a book that tells you how to use it!!!!!!!!!!!!! You cant beat that. Then you can put that OS on as many computers you want...and you dont have to call Linus Torvalds to EVER!!!!!!
