Okay, I have a Dell demension 2400 and my parents bought it with like, the lowest version of....everything. Any suggestions as to what type of RAM and harddrives would work with this model?

Not sure how much Ram you got with your computer?

Harddrive, what do you need?
What do you have in it now?
You can go to dell and enter service tag no. and see what specs your computer has

According to the base dimension 2400 specs it uses one PC-2700 RAM stick and an IDE hard drive.
Open the case and physically look to see if there is an open RAM slot and a spot to mount another hard drive.
You will also need to look at the hard drive cable for a second connector otherwise you will need a cable with both Master and slave connectors.
Any PC-2700 or PC 3200 RAM in your preferred capacity will work. Same with the IDE hard drive.
The original hard drives jumper will need to be set to "Master" and the jumper on the new drive will need to be set to "Slave".
If you want to replace the original drive with a new drive then you will need some sort of imaging software or use the Dell restore disks that came with the PC.
You can then temporarily slave the original drive to the new drive and transfer any saved data.

I personally have had great experience with Crucial ram as well as OCZ. 2gb would be best (that's what I use cuz I'm spoiled:D) but I'm certain 1gb will suffice. Many worry about different speeds i.e. PC2700, PC3200, etc. A PC3200 will just underclock itself and run at PC2700 specs. Just a word of caution: don't buy those fancy schmancy ram modules that require a higher than normal voltage, I doubt a Dell mobo will be able to supply it (I learned that the hard way).
